Good Morning Gang!

Kitty is checking in this morning at 296. Hopefully, this is the beginning of better numbers--we had a rough day yesterday!

We have had good success on fat 3.7s--so, we are trying that dose again.

Wishing everyone a Great Day

Kim and Kitty

Re: Kitty 8/17 tid

Ran home for an early lunch...couldn't decide if I wanted to check Cool Kitty or let her ears rest...I mean, there is no way she could be in good numbers--she had an awful day yesterday, but I couldn't stand it..........

+4.5 105 dancing_cat

And--for the first time that I have gotten a test anywhere in this range---no fluids are involved!

I fed her a 1/2 can of FF--her nadir is normally +6...so......

I know we have wanted to call the 71 and 91 a fluke.....I don't think so!

Re: Kitty 8/17 tid

Great set of numbers today! Since it is happening again - this would be a breakthrough caused by the momentum of the higher dose. Now you will just need to play around with the dosing to keep it coming!

Re: Kitty 8/17 tid

mdms--319 shot a f3.7

A good AM cycle for Cool Kitty!

Re: Kitty 8/17 tid...pm question...

confused_cat Okay, here is where I really get confused....................

I shot Kitty with the same f3.7 at mid-cycle as I did at her AM cycle. I shot into a 290 at am and a 319 at pm--everything else the same, right down to the food. The +4.5 on the AM cycle was 105......the +4.5 on the midcycle is 353. So, other than ECID and a fluke test, someone please explain to me how you interpret this data?

My knee jerk reaction is she went low at 105....anything blue is low to her......and that her body is fighting the insulin. I am certain I am missing something...so please throw your ideas out to me! I get to shoot again in 3.5 hours---I wonder if she will be 500 or300.

Since no one is around, I think I will answer my own question and maybe get some responses.......

First, I dont think Symogi Rebound is going on with Kitty. But, in some earlier searches I ran across this, and the idea I am interested in is tucked in a Symogi reference......please look at the reference to not only sugar being dumped by the liver as a protective agent to the cat's body, but also hormones are released...and according to the below reference it can make the cat temporary insulin resistant....

Now to get any buy in, I would have to convince you her liver is dumping sugar----none of us know the answer to that for sure, but after 6 months of testing her, I do see a correlation of high numbers throughout the cycle following any blue numbers. So, I think it is plausable that her liver is dumping on blue numbers.

Okay, below is the copied and pasted info I am referring too. Is anyone familiar the effects of the release of these hormones?

Shoot away!

Detecting and avoiding chronic Somogyi rebound

Oddly, too much insulin may result in increase of blood glucose (BG). This "Somogyi effect" is often noted by pet owners who monitor their pets' blood glucose at home.

The reason: anytime the glucose level drops too far or too fast, the animal's organism may defensively dump glucose (converted from glycogen in the liver), as well as hormones epinephrine and cortisol, into the bloodstream. (If these are insufficient, hypoglycemia ensues!) The glycogen raises the blood glucose, the other two may make the pet insulin-resistant for a time. This phenomenon was first documented by a Dr. Michael Somogyi. [33]

But, I have one.................don't you see that? Kitty is my hobby!

I actually got a call from a local lady today...she heard I "knew" a lot  about diabetic cats and she thought her 15 year old kitty might be diabetic. But, she didn't have the money to take him to the vet, so she wanted to know if I could help her. So, I loaded up my meter and went to her house. I pricked the BIG cats ear and checked his sugar.....66. She was so happy and I have a new friend!

It is all what you make out of it.

That's a great story Kim! Good for you being able to help her out!

Today's mid cycle could be a bout of insulin resistance. There is no way to truly know what is going on here though. Could be symogi, could be the pancreas sputtering, etc. If it is due to the 105 earlier today - then I would hold the course. That 105 isn't too low, and it isn't close to going too low, so IMO you just need to show her more and more numbers in that range.

Kim,
I will tell you that the same thing happens to Shakes quite a bit
He will have a really good day, then at night he will remain high..
but he has always done that...... :?

PMPS 341-- satisfied with this considering the +4.5--flat cycle....shot 3.7
