Kitty 5/12 -- Not so Good.. A little Better!

Good Morning!

Today has not been good. Kitty did not want to Eat this morning at all. I actually had the car packed and was going to take her back to the vet school, just to be sure there were no additional options for her treatment. The truth is, I am not even sure what we are treating as her main problem....her heart, her kidneys, Ptitis...or all. So, the car was packed and I was taking Kitty to the car when I decided to try to get her to eat one more time. I told her if she would eat, that I would not make her go to Raleigh......she didn't eat much, but she did eat some! So, I unpacked the car. I have called the vet school to see if there are alternative appetite stimulants that we can try-- I am waiting on a call back. I bought her a drinking fountain a month ago, but she didn't seem to like it. I set it back up this morning, and she seems to be enjoying it.

I still am not certain that we will not end up back at the vet today or over the weekend. She must eat.....she is skinny and frail and she can't take many days of decreased appetite.The vet mentioned a feeding tube at the last visit---but, I do not think I am interested in that option. I would support a feeding tube if it was short term in an effort to get her stronger, but not as a means to just extend life.

Hopefully the day will get better and she will EAT more!

The vet school just called and they are giving me a different appetite stimulant---Cyproheptadine. I am leaving now to go to Raleigh to pick it up.
(Thanks Barbara, I actually called and asked about this because of your suggestion last night!)

Keeping Senging EATING Vibes..... IT is Working!

I came home from the vet with the new stimulant and Kitty had eaten ALL of the food I left out and she wanted some more. I fed her a little additional which she ate also! Her BG is probably low! I have caught some wonky numbers, but if that is what if take to eat...so be it! As long as she doesn't hype, maybe it is a good strategy!

So, she is eating a little and I have a new med, so hopefully she will keep eating!

Thanks to All! She is so weak and skinny, but if she eats she might get stronger.
 
Glad to hear she ate some today! I hope this new stimulant works. How much did they tell you to give her? I think there is some play with that also. My bottle from crazy old vet says 1/2 of 4 mg. pill twice a day but I think that's that one you can try 1/4 of also. I know there are a lot of people around here that know more about it than I do.
