Sunrise is 6 months old (today!) and joined our family on Sunday. She received a clean bill of health on Monday evening and started meeting our other 2 furries that evening. They are not getting very close to one another and Sunrise remains secluded when we are not around to monitor.
This morning, she has a bit of a runny eye. Clear. She is extremely playful, eating, drinking etc...

Tom (and sometimes Minnie) have some issues with cat colds every so often, especially when stressed. They have both been getting l-lysine in their food since Sunrise arrived as a preventative measure. Minnie started sneezing yesterday.

Should I take Sunrise in to the vet? Or just keep the eye clean and watch her for changes?

I always like to do a wellness visit when I adopt a kitty.

With my foster kittens I've been told if the runny eye is clear L-lysine should be fine, if the discharge has color then a vet visit is in order.

I'm no expert and only been fostering kittens for a short time. Maybe you could call your vet and ask what they think.

My guess is probably that you should get it checked out initially, or at least call the vet, especially since you have other cats in the household.

But I just wanted to mention that my cat Odie has a blocked tear duct. He's 11 yrs old now and has had it since I adopted him at about 6 months old. His left eye runs, just tears. It does not seem to bother him, he washes it away with his paw, or comes when I show him a tissue and say "come, let me clean your eye", he pushes his head forward to meet the tissue. They apparently could do some kind of medical procedure to try and unblock it, but as it never really bothered him, I decided not to put him through it.

It is relatively common for a new cat to pickup an URI form other cats. I agree with Tucker's mom is that if the discharge remains clear, just keep it clean.

Thanks. She did get a kitten wellness visit on Monday, before being introduced to the others.

Any specific amount of l-lysine? Does it depend on weight? Can I give it to a kitten too?
