Thanks for all the help so far with Kisa, I have been looking over the posts, even if I haven't responded, had a lot of downtime today, not in the best shape. Kisa, on the other hand is fine, though he's been howling for me, because he hates it when I sleep all day and don't make cuddle time. But other than that, all is well

Welcome to Relaxed Lantus Land, Derek and Kisa!

I tried to get advice on treats, but the vet basically told me 'no treats are good for diabetic cats'. I tried the freeze dried meat treats, and he won't eat them. Specific canned foods would be good, preferably friskies, as I can buy them cheap in bulk

Here's a treat list for more food options to try. Sometimes you have to rehydrate the freeze-dried for the first few times you give it so they know it's edible. I had to do this with my Henry. Once he realized how delicious they were, he's become unstoppable and opens up all the cabinets in my kitchen, looking for them. He also likes to take out any bags that are similarly shaped to his treat bag. ohmygod_smile Makes me have to clean the kitchen daily. :YMSIGH:  Other things that work are petting, grooming, cuddling, etc.... These don't work on Michelangelo but they definitely work for Henry. Finally, in lieu of treats or pettings, I'll sometimes sprinkle the treat "dust" on top of their food or (their favorite) parmesan cheese. Oregano also works for some cats or a little bit of catnip.
