Sorry guys, I put this here so she would see it: hopefully she comes to the health board first. I didn't get to "community" until I had calmed down and read about the health things first. OK? If the mod thinks it should be somewhere else, please feel free to move it. Thanks.

Anyway:
I hope you find your way here while you are waiting for the results of the Fructosamine test. Check out all the links the site Admin has put together here:

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=115

It has links to Janet & Binky's food pages. A MUST, for beginners.

I didn't think to put down my phone number on the card with the info, but if you PM (Private Message) me, I can, if you have questions. (I think you have to "join" to PM, but you should anyway, to post any or all your questions.)

First, breathe, yes, that was a little more of an expensive bill than you expected, wasn't it? But, this is treatable. Did they say anything about homestesting? I know they are one of the more enlightened vets around here, so be lucky you didn't go to (and I won't publicly announce them, but they are pretty bing around here) - they would have tried to send you home with insulin, or keep the cat for another...$500. (without having even DONE a frucosamine test...)
If they did, or do, Don't let them sell you one of theirs. Walmart has a reliable one pretty cheap. I would get one, if you have a suspected diabetic cat anyway. Really, it's not that hard, and you will save a lot of money instead of having to leave the cat there to do a curve (you'll have to read what that is). The next step would be that, if your cat does need insulin. So if you learn how to hometest, now, you will one step ahead, if/when they suggest it.
I don't know which vet you had, but Dr. DeCort is the best there, for this, in my opinion. He is very willing and open to answer all your questions and concerns. Willing to listen.
And get copies of all the bloodwork results.

Sorry this got so long, but I really hope you see it, and learn, and feel that you are not alone. You are in the right place.
>>one more suggestion: copy and paste everything you read into a word doc, get all the links, absorb it all later.
First, breathe.

Sincerely,
Jayne
