I just read an article on FoxNews that got my brain REALLY upset. As the title says, 'Kids soup cans contain BPA Toxins". Here's part of the first paragraph:

If food comes in a can, it's likely to contain the worrisome chemical bisphenol A, or BPA, according to a new study.

Later in the same long article, it states this:

In cell and rodent studies, the chemical has been linked to all sorts of reproductive and developmental problems, including cancers, diabetes, early puberty and attention deficit disorder.

Leaves me wondering about how it's affecting our 'wet food' kitties? Anyone know?
 
Yup. that's why my daughter eats very little canned food unless it's from a bpa-free can. I can't imagine that any cat food companies are willing to raise their prices enough to get those, though. I suppose raw would be the best alternative, but that's very pricey, too.
 
It would be in the plastic-like coating of the can; no coating, no BPA.
 
Isn't that the lining that's in the FFeast cans? They look different than the Friskies cans.....ProPlan and Iams seems to have the same lining as FFeast.
 
Well, we know for a fact the the overloaded carb intake from dry food can and does cause diabetes quite frequently. I would love to feed a home made or raw diet, and if I can ever get work and school down to where I'm only busy with obligations 40 hours a week, I'm going to make the change. However, until then I think canned food is still a much healthier option, considering that the studies done on how harmful BPA Toxins actually are are not definitive. So given the known risk of a dry diet vs. the unknown and possibly negligible risk of canned food, I'm going to stick to the canned diet and continue to recommend it.
 
Julia-- if it is a concern for you, making the switch to raw is not as time consuming as you might think. I actually make Willie's raw food in either quadruple or 8x batches, which works out to making cat food only every 1-2 months, which makes it pretty convenient. I do use ziploc bags for storage as I can fill a quart bag with a 2 day serving, and pressed out and folded flat, they take up very little freezer space. I never thaw in the microwave, though... just toss it into a pan of hot water, or even just leave on the counter for an hour or so. Extremely doable!
 
The problem is, I don't even have time to make myself dinner---I work 12-14 hour days during the week, 8 hour days on the weekend, and I have school. That's a 7 day a week schedule. I'm lucky if I barely have time to clean my house on the weekends, and when I have a spare hour or two I just want to sit down.
 
I called on this a couple of years ago, and just now called again to re-comfirm it. I called Purina Fancy Feast division at 1-800-933-0991 (I think remember the number correctly) off the back of the Fancy Feast can. They again, told me that they do not have BPA on or in their cans. She said we haven't had that in a long time. So, I don't think you have to worry about Fancy Feast.

some of the grain free cans that I bought Cedric from the local pet food store actually indicated that they were BPA free on the label.
