Just checking if these ingredients in this product are okay for diabetic kitties.

Thanks in advance!

I do not have any personal knowledge of this medication. Looking at the ingredient list I do not see any sugar derivates so should be ok. Best answer would be to call/email Virbac, they have a contact number on their web page. Just type in "Pronefra" under search and Virbac Pronefra will pop up.

Thanks! I’m far away in Asia and couldn’t find an email to write to. Anyway, I also think it looks ok to give to him.

Scroll waaaaayyyy down to "Calcium Binders" and you will find Pronefra listed. There is a lot of info. I am glad to help you as this has also sent me on a research path. My non diabetic cat, Serena, has early stage of renal failure based on elevated BUN. My doc never told me it needed treatment at this time. I am more concerned with her Hyperthyroidism which is controlled but she is extremely thin, I am doing everything to get her to gain weight without much success.

I was unable to find an email anywhere. Don't know if you can call from your location.

My cut and paste was not working earlier.

Can you tell me where you are located? I am just curious how far away you are!

Hi,
I’m in Singapore. My boy is a diabetic in remission and he also has renal and heart diseases. His phosphorus needs to be controlled but he wouldn’t eat the food laced with aluminium hydroxide. I was introduced to this Pronefra and it is supposed to work with even fussy cats. But guess wat? He knows there’s something in his food and refuses to eat it.
I have 2 other cats with renal failure and sub-cutaneous fluids help a lot. For these 2, their creatinine and bun dropped with daily fluids. Crea dropped from 3.1 to 2.
U may want to discuss this with your vet.

My vet said you shouldn't put Pronefra in food as it interferes with the absorbsion. It needs to be syringed in the mouth before feeding. Rom was on it for his kidneys as the aluminium hydroxide made him ill.

Oh thanks! Didn’t know that. So if he feeds few times in a day, then I have to syringe before every feed? That will be tough.

I find it fascinating how people practically from all over the world find this forum!

I will ask my Doc about IV fluids. Serena goes in for lab test recheck next week.

Best wishes to you and your Kitties. Sounds like you have your hands full!
