Hi,

Priss had an ultrasound during her last hospital visit for DKA which showed chronic kidney disease and pancreatitis. At that time her insulin was raised to 1.5 unit from 1 unit twice a day. Right now she's eating Wellness Chicken, but her BG is high sometimes and rather low at others. I was considering changing her back to FF which was more stable but she doesn't like it too much. After reviewing the food charts it seems all of FF low carb are over 250 phosphorous except a couple fish flavors.

Do you think Merrick Cowboy Cookout is a good choice? Its lower in calories, 154 per can, but has low phosphorous. She's supposed to weigh ten pounds so I think she needs 250 calories a day.

Thank you,

Elizabeth

I made a shortcut list and the phosphorus numbers are all at the end of each one.... a little easier to read....

shortcut list

Nature's Variety Instinct canned is the lowest carbs and lowest phosphorus of all of them.
I agree... Fancy feast is way too high in phosphorus.

Ruby was diagnosed with kidney issues. We've switched to Friskies Special Diet Beef & Chicken. Not ideal, but its what both my girls will eat (they big Fancy Feast fans previously). I can occasionally get them to eat the Friskies Special Diet Turkey & Giblets (which has less phosphorus than the B&C) but they won't eat it consistently. Both of these are at 5% on carbs and even though the label does say they contain brewer's rice, it hasn't effected Ru's BG level. She's still OTJ and has been eating this for 3-4 months now.

Hobbs is Diabetic & has CKD and he eats Merrick's Cowboy Cookout, a turkey one I can not remember right now, and the BG Turkey. I buy them from Wag.com (Affiliate link at the top of the page).

Thank you everyone for the advice. We switched her food and she seems to be doing a little better now.
