I just tested my cats urine. It usually does not change color for ketones but just now it turned grey. None of the shades are supposed to be grey. Could this be a bad strip. I actually checked it twice and it changed the same grey as well. He is eating great and acting normally. What should I do?

since your kitty is acting fine , I wouldn't panic.

It sounds like the strips could be bad. I would go out and get a new bottle of strips.
What brand are you using? maybe even try a different brand.
I have always used the keto disastix from Bayer.

Thanks for responding. I am using a generic brand I got from Hocks. It tests for 10 different things but I have been using it for glucose and ketones. What signs would he have if he was experiencing dka?

If your cat is acting normal, I would suspect it's the strips. I would get new strips soon because
ketones are really dangerous and can go into DKA rather quickly. But a cat with elevated ketones
will be sick on some level ..... glassy eyes, trouble walking, hiding and usually not eating.
Good luck and get the urine strips just for ketones.
Nancy and Payne (thankful it's not her)

Always in permanent ink, mark the date of opening the urine test stip bottles. Your strips are probably bad. Ketostix you can buy at any pharmacy.
