? Ketones and "long term diabetic" questions

Hi everyone,

Chispa has been meowing more than usual lately, and during a particularly vocal stretch I decided to test for ketones. Photos below show the results ... and I really can't tell whether this indicates negative or trace. The last photo is the test strip (right) compared to one that I dipped in plain water (left). If this is "trace," what should I be doing?

We are about a month and a half away from the 1-year anniversary of Chispa's diagnosis. I know the reduction point for TR changes to 40 for long-term diabetics, but what exactly is "long term"?

As always, I'm grateful for the individual and collective wisdom of group members.

Many thanks!

Long term means a year sinceFD diagnosis date. So that one year annifursary means another change. This post spells it out: Reminder: *earning* reductions and starting OTJ trials

As for ketones, have you tried testing yourself? Also, make sure it's exactly 15 seconds that you wait, and are in good light. I don't see a red tinge, so I suspect it's nil.
@Wendy&Neko , thanks for the information and link. I couldn't work out why you were suggesting that I should test myself for ketones, unless it would explain my own recent howling. And sure enough, mine came up looking even more like "trace" than Chispa's. The package insert says the presence of a small amount of ketones could be explained by things like a cold or flu (I've had a sore throat that I've been attributing to the smoke from Canada, but who knows), or by stress. !!!BINGO!!!

I'll stop worrying about the ketones for now. Bummer about the bar being set higher for reductions after July, though.
