ketone test strips

Hi, I usually buy the Ketostix. While shopping at ADW, I found these http://www.americandiabeteswholesal...lucose-test-strips_1645.htm?source=SiteSearch. They are much cheaper and also test of BG--are these for use in some type of meter? Sounds like a good idea if all you need is a urine sample. Anyone know about these or have used them?

Nope those are a dip stick just like the regular ketostixs, they just happen to measure both glucose and ketones but still aren't as accurate as blood testing when it comes to knowing immediately what a BG is. They are only going to tell you what the average is and if the glucose is above the renal threshold so worthless to catch an oncoming hypo situation.

Thanks. I test his BG several times a day with a glucometer. The price sounds great--its for a box of 100... So either I buy a box of 50 ketostix or these, which are cheaper.... what ketone test strips do you use?

Well when I was checking for ketones on a regular basis I just used the house brand from Walmart, but I seldom do anymore since Maxwell is OTJ and Autumn is tightly regulated and seldom out of normal numbers on her current dose. With Maxwell I just used the ketostixs with Autumn in the beginning I used the ones that do both glucose and ketones as she was so severely dehydrated and came to me with moderate ketones, but that was way back in March of last year. Both of mine were adopted as diabetics.

I use the ReliOn Ketone Test Strips and they are $5.97 for 50 strips.
They give you a test result in 15 seconds, and the bottle reads "Use within 6 months after opening", so I always write the date that I open the bottle, on the cardboard box.
I have yet to use all 50 strips within the 6 month period before I have to throw what's left out.

I just a placed an order via FDMB at Walmart.com, and loaded up on those ReliOn ketone tests, ReliOn Prime test strips, triple antibiotic w/pain relief and lancets
