Kelley and Merlin - Lower AMPS Numbers

Merlin's BG @ +9.5 was 337 AT. I just let him lick the inside of the baby food jar lid while I took it. I think I read somewhere not to let them eat too close to insulin time so their PS number isn't skewed. Is that correct, or does it not matter since I've taken a few readings and know where his numbers have been this afternoon?
Hey Kelley! The 2 hour fasting window is to make sure the BG is safe to shoot. Then feeding after to make sure they have food onboard when the insulin starts kicking in.

I’m new here - but I would guess that a couple licks of that lid won’t impact things much for shot time, but I could be wrong.

It is fine to let him eat up until +10. After that the preshot could be food influenced so until you know your Kitty’s numbers well, it is better to stick to the no food for the 2 hours preshot.

Thank you both! His PMPS was 371 AT, 350 RO. He ate another jar of food and I gave him 2 units @ 10:15pm CT.

He's been throwing up sporadically the last couple of days, now even on just the baby food. I'm thinking it is just like he was doing prior to starting the sensitive stomach food. I'm not sure what to try him on to get the random vomiting to stop. Although it was terrible for his blood glucose, the dry sensitive stomach food seemed to stop the vomiting.

Do you have some ondansetron (an antinausea med) you can give him?

Hi Bron, no is it prescription? We see the vet again on Tuesday, I could ask for some. I wish I had set an alarm for around +3 after last night's dose. I've been so tired lately that when I fall asleep, I sleep hard. At +7.5 he was back up to 580. I wonder how low he went before he bounced back up.

You need to ask the vet for a script for the ondansetron and take it to a human pharmacy to have it filled. It is a human medication but is used either successfully for cats with nausea.
Have you managed to get a ketone test done again. It’s important we know what’s happening with the ketones.

Ok, I will ask the vet for the prescription when we go on Tuesday. Mer's PMPS @ 9:30pm was 259 AT and 224 RO, he ate well and got 2 units @ 9:45pm. I had been unsuccessful in capturing some urine until just about 20 minutes ago. It's a little hard to match the strip. I feel like it is between negative and trace. I'll also get a blood ketone test at the vet on Tuesday. The blood ketones were 3.2 last Tuesday, I'm hoping they've gone done some. I'm setting an alarm to wake up and test him at midnight to make sure he isn't going too low. I may test again during the night depending on what the midnight number is.

Merlin's BG this morning was 606 AT and 584 RO. This is looking like it might be a pattern on his SS. Better daytime numbers and shooting back up overnight. My questions are could this be due to 1. not eating overnight, 2. the dawn phenomenon, 3. does it indicate possibly needing a higher night time dose? If the vet considers higher night dose, then do I have to worry more about him going hypo in the middle of the night while I'm sleeping? Also will ask the vet these questions tomorrow.

Tonight Merlin's PMPS was 592 AT and 542 RO. Today he has run consistently high, after two days of dipping down into better numbers in the daytime and going back up at night. But he seems basically like his old self. He ate and I gave him 2 units. For the first time I think I might have felt some wetness on his fur when I pet him aftet the shot, so now I'm worried he might have got a partial fur shot. We go to the vet in the morning.
