Sorry to hear that. DKA is not enough insulin + inappetence + underlying infection/systemic stress, so I assume that latter part is what they're trying to figure out.

I'm not sure what your situation is, but it can be very expensive to treat. I don't want you surprised by it, so be sure to ask them about costs/estimates. He will likely have to stay a few days, be treating with fast acting insulin to get his BG down, fluids, possibly feeding tube if they can't get him eating in his own.
 
When you get a chance can you start a new thread please? We try to cap them at 50 posts so it's not too.much for people to read through/catch up on. A title like "Kaz, DKA, Hospitalized" is a good idea
 
My kitty had DKA and was hospitalized when he was 11. He lived another 9 years. I took him to a university vet school hospital, and I think it was less expensive then a regular emergency vet. They also tried to find the reason for the DKA, but never did. He did come home with a feeding tube, because he would not eat in the hospital. Within 24 hours of being home, he started eating on his own.
