This just in - I stepped on someone tiny and vindictive, most likely a little scorpion. NOT fun. I'll be watching for any symptoms other than pain/nausea (those are pretty standard). I *hate* hospitals. Hope it wasn't a brown button spider, because then it'd have to be hospital with IV and whatnot... *##$@!!! We are NOT amused.

Jane I'm sorry you stepped on something. I'll be praying for your quick recovery and it's not a brown button sprider.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Carla! You're a sweetheart!

I didn't develop symptoms like chest pain or trouble breathing, so chances are it was just a little scorpion on maybe someone even more harmless, a wasp or a bee even. The foot is up and wrapped in ice. I also have ice in my glass of chenin blanc

Thanks for your well wishes!
Hugs
Jane

....here we go with spiders again :o ....

How bad is the swelling? Did you find a stinger or a puncture? Is the wine helping?

Keep an eye on it,
Carl

ETA- do you have any antihistamine in the medicine cabinet?

Thanks, Carl! No stinger (that would have helped be sure who got me). Single small puncture. Looks consistent with a small scorpion or, possibly, wasp/bee/hornet. Hard to say. I'm watching it. But if the venom was one of the nasty ones, I'd be much sicker. I'll be ok tomorrow I hope. And YES, the wine is taking the edge off quite nicely  I've treated it with antibiotic essential oils, and I've taken antihistamines and pain meds. It'll be ok! Thanks, you guys!

"Just a little scorpion" is sort of like me telling one of our guests "but it's just a baby diamondback rattlesnake" or "don't worry, a little alligator can't eat you...your little puppy, perhaps, but you should be okay."

You know what we say down here, Carl: "Another shitty day in Africa!" Meant ironically of course. Hey, I got to photograph two types of wild iris today, and I saw a breeding pair of jackal buzzards circling in a clear impossibly blue sky. Compared to that, it really is "just a little scorpion", or whatever else it was. In fairness, I did step on the little fellow, whatever fellow it was. I'd have been pissed off too!

Hopefully tomorrow the pain and nausea will clear and it will all be forgotten.

Hugs
Jane

I know what you mean, Jane. On the rare occasions I spot a bald eagle or a river otter, it makes anything "bad" that happened that day pale in perspective. Will we be seeing said irises anytime soon?
Carl
