Karre's Caturday Condo (25/8/12)

Thanks, Ladies! Karre commands me to tell you all that he was just teaching us a lesson in gratitude with those blues - he feels that we were not being humble enough during our daily abject grovelling at his throne, and that we were becoming just a tad too demanding regarding the BG test results, so he thought he'd remind us that HE is the one with the sugar control (and the crystal ball). Alright, Your Highness. Point taken

In other news, while perusing the catalogue of glitter images preparing for the OTJ salutations in Jasper's condo, I found African animals! Love it

Who doesn't love a glittery elephant! Well, except for in the wild. There, it may just come off a bit odd. Although, far be it from me to begrudge any pachyderm the pleasure of rocking some sparkles :-D

This condo's gotten a bit strange...HAPPY but 'strange'...spiders? I thought I was one of the few that coexist with spiders too. Since there's other spider lovers here, I just HAVE to post a picture of Herman. Herman lived around and on the same large hydrangea for 2 years - I fed him cat food bits. He would actually run to the edge of the leaf when he saw me and wait....he's about the size of a half dollar, maybe a bit bigger. I couldn't believe he returned after the first winter. Here's my Herman:

....

Jane - just LOVE your pictures!!!

BIG HUGS!!!

I love furry spiders. I've stopped my car to pick them up and help them across the road, so they don't get hit, and gently held them in my hands when I found them while hiking on Mount Diablo where I grew up

I'm glad Karre is bringing himself down just fine.

Oh, and thanks for the porky pine pictures :-D

OMG, you TOUCH them??? :o And they're big enough to see from behind the wheel of your car? :o

I have a healthy respect for spiders but want no part of them. I know they eat pests so they're okay and they're interesting to look at but they give me the creeps. I don't want them anywhere near me. I don't trust them not to bite me.

OK, maybe I'll get over my shudders if I face them...

I don't kill spiders in my house unless they are poisonous. We have gotten a black widow in one time. My cats think spides are toys and try to kill them. So I have to get them out of the house as soon as I find them if I don't want the cats to kill them. I do the same thing at work. They probably think I'm crazy. If I find a spider, I put it out the front door instead of killing it.

Spiders are all venomous. That's how they catch their prey. Just not all of them can have an effect on humans. What I worry most about in the house, because my cats are also spider hunters are which ones have potent enough venom to effect a cat even if they can hurt me. I also will remove and relocate them rather than harm one, but I'm not touching them with my bare hands

You might find this funny.... I didn't!
One of the cool things I get to do is ride an ATV down our hiking/biking trails. However, what isn't cool is being the first one down the trail in the early morning, and happening upon a spider web that amazing can be made overnight to stretch all the way across the trail. So, one morning I'm happily puttering down the trail, enjoying nature and life, occasionally ducking when I catch the sun hitting a spider web. One web, however, was too low to avoid, and I went through it right at "face level". So I'm trying to wipe this sticky totally disgusting web off my face as I'm still going 5mph or so down the trail, just wondering if maybe there was a spider attached to it when I hit it. A minute or so later, yeah, you guessed it... I feel this crawling sensation on my neck, and I freak out, nearly crash into a tree and bring my ATV to a quick halt. I am just so grateful that I was alone, and that no early riser happened to be on the trail with an IPhone handy, or I might have been the subject in a viral video on Youtube, screaming like a 12 year old girl and doing the "spider dance" trying to get this creature from hell OFF OF ME!!! It was one of these:

They are quite venomous and they may not be deadly like a black widow can be, they can make you pretty sick if you get bitten by one.
She was about 5 or 6 inches long but she may as well have been 5 or 6 feet long. She survived, as did I, as I finally flung her and her nasty web off of me and let's just say the rest of the trail was ridden at speeds in excess of 5 mph...
I am totally convinced that even a couple of years later, every time I ride down that trail, she's just sitting or hanging around somewhere just waiting for another chance...
I would rather have to deal with convincing an 8 foot long alligator that the side of the highway is not a good place to bask in the sunlight in early springtime like we have to do every year, than get up close and personal with one of these things again.

Nope, sorry Carl, but NOT all spider are venomous. And the ones that are prefer to save their venom for potential prey, which humans are not. I don't like them much either, but let's not make them seem scarier than they already are

Oh my, I just snorted coffee out my nose! Hilarious story! I always feel that way when I walk into a web, but have never had quite that experience - thanks for the laugh! (I was playing the YouTube video in my head while reading your story...)

Wow - I just found this Caterday Condo post thingie, and what great fun here - and *awesome* pictures!

Okay, just one little spider story... My old cat, from years and years ago, loved to stalk and eat daddy longlegs. They are harmless little things with needle-thin legs we'd play with as kids. Anyway, Barney would trap one and eat the tasty body... and then sometimes we'd catch him walking around the house with one or two of those little skinny legs sticking out of his mouth like he'd forgotten to wipe his chin. So funny!

Ok Kids...

Poor Carl will never visit another Caturday Condo otherwise  And Linda won't either, and we all know we can't do without those two, and many others!

Instead, let's switch to less controversial photos, hmm?

Here are a few I snapped yesterday, starting, of course, with His Majesty Karre the Emperor, and King Henry - both requesting that we all not talk about anything with more than 4 legs for a while  They saw this condo go off the rails. They were displeased. (I got wet noodles.)

So, onwards then with the PRETTY pictures!

Karre was just chilling, in this one, but Henry was watching a little visitor (no, not *that* kind this time) at the window...

Isn't she lovely?! Normally, we see sugarbirds and sunbirds mostly by the pool, because that's where a lot of the "extra-nectar" flowers are, like these yellow ones...

DH, Jack, pointed out what a great photo this would make, so I went ahead and did a few. I like seeing the next two on top of each other, mirroring the mirror image, as it were.

Anyone else got any pretty flowers (or kitties)? Dyana, thanks for the blue ones for Linda - if I can coax her in here under promises of a distinct lack of more-than-four-legs material, I bet she'll love them!

Hugs,
Jane

Good boy, watching his domain!

Wow - my Molly insists on sitting *between* me and the keyboard, and I have to type *around* her :-)

Jane, Glad and relieved the Emperor intervened and his condo is back to 4 legs or less, whew! No multi-legs for me, thanks. I do love the beautiful pictures of kitties and flowers and scenery. Those glitter critters are fun too, I hope Jasper is looking forward to dressing up for his OTJ party next week, keeping my fingers crossed.

Sorry for the arachnophobe buzz kill :o Thanks for the blue flowers, Jane and Dyana :-D

Pinkerton feels that he is a good candidate for the "four legs or less" condo:

Hi Jane - No, I didn't post one ... will do it now. Leo is stepping down to yellows, so I'd love to see a nice smooth yellow day and night after our adventures!

I'll dig up a picture of me and Molly when I get home and post it. She's an adorable Calico.

Lisa

PS - why is it called a Condo?

We don't get many flowers here. I live in the jungle, but it's all green all the time. About the only flower in bloom right now is a trumpet vine, but I did have these pics from earlier this year.

This is Molly, Leo's older sister with kidney disease and high blood pressure. Mommy's girl.
I'll look for the *exact* pose, but this one is close. And yes, it IS possible to type like this. Her little head just bops up and down!

Here's a "sorry for asking about bugs and opening a can of spiders" picture. This is about 2 hours from where we live.

Hope Karre is doing well.

Here's a groundhog who stopped by to visit one day.
Here's a picture I was taking of the clouds outside my house one day. I didn't realize the bird had flown into it until afterwards.

Love the spider flower!

Hmm... His Majesty is having another "high" day - , well, high for *him*, anyway. He went from 7.2/130 to 8.4/151... We've had a crazy Friday - I know his regular breakfast time was off by quite a bit, unfortunately, and he didn't come in to eat again for about six hours. Damn.

We just fed him half a can or so (LC FF as usual) and will re-test in 3 hours. I hope he is back to the green again. I *know* he brings himself back down beautifully with food. I *know* overall he's doing fine. Still, I just hate seeing anything over 120 on that glucometer... I know, I *know* - we're spoiled.

Ah well. Otherwise it's a good TGIF. Let's hope His Majesty celebrates tomorrow - 1 Month *Back* OTJ - with some greeeeeeeen! (Can we get some greenage vines, possibly? He's throwing a party of course, come one come all, and the theme is All Things Green - it'd spoil the fun something awful if his BG didn't follow suit!)

See you tomorrow for a brand new Caturday Condo!
Hugs
Jane

Hi Jane and Karre, I just got a quick look at the pics and will come back later and look at them, beautiful pics.
Sending some "greenage vines" to Karre! I wouldn't worry about it at all; There's always bound to be some higher than usual numbers for any OTJ kitty, and you are so quick to catch them is all. It's almost like you know when to catch it! I bet Karre brings it down in no time.
Thanks for all your support and vines with Maggie. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Go back down Karre...
