Greetings, LL!

Here is Karre's Previous Caturday Condo.

His Majesty Karre the Emperor of Basically Everything sends his royal regards to all of you. He welcomes the new arrivals to LL and wishes them well on their FD-journey. Should the newbie sugarkitties have any concerns or questions, he will be happy to receive them at their convenience. As an aside, he requests that Dale's Max, who represents his very own royal bloodline as Karre recently learned, let him know what sort of palace *he* would like, so that Karre can supervise construction to begin as soon as possible in preparation for Max's eagerly anticipated arrival! :-D He was thrilled to welcome Julie's Orange to the Falls, and is anxiously awaiting Jasper's arrival in a few days. (He also let it be known that he has acquired a crystal ball that tells him which kitties will be next to pack their bags and move to the Falls - but upon being pressed to reveal what he knows, he gave nothing but a regal stare, indicating as clearly as ever that it is not for lowly minion beans to know such matters.)

He also asks that I extend his invitation to you all to come and vent a little if you're so inclined - he hopes that this way, you all can get things off your chest and hopefully feel re-energized for the upcoming week  His Majesty has instructed me to give you his WCR, and to follow it up with some photos of his palatial gardens here at the Falls. He has *expressly* included his favourite flower, the frangipani blossom (the first image), for Marje, as a token of his gratitude for all that she does to help kitties and beans, and to show how much he, along with all of LL, hopes she will soon be right as rain again.

Onwards, then, to the WCR - in a word, it is purrrfect. Karre continues to grace us with his imperially green presence - he even threw in a lovely 80s BG just to make sure his minion beans stayed relaxed and happy  All 5 Ps are present. His Majesty rules over his subjects with a gentle and ever magnanimous paw. This afternoon, he will be presiding over the catfood preparation. At present, he is enjoying a royal nap - as are his siblings, as you can see. Time for photos!

Enjoy - and do stop in and visit throughout the week if you like, to post any questions or thoughts or rants  Though I'm around during the week too, I'll stick to the weekly condos since LL really is busy enough, but you're all welcome to post in here until the *next* Caturday Condo, as you like.

Many happy hugs from the Falls!
Jane and Jack, with Karre, Maggie, Luca and Henry.

Love the photos, Jane. And love the way you write.

I'm glad The Emperor of Basically Everything is enjoying his caturday at The Falls :-D

Very beautiful flowers! The one almost looks like a Bird of Paradise flower. Lovely pictures of your babies, too. It always amazes me that a large cat can fit into a small space.. Like a small box. Again, congratulations on Karre's graduation! This is extremely awesome! :YMHUG:

Hi Jane, what an awesome condo and great report on Karre. You really have a gift of writing! Thanks for updates, too, on some things I missed. Beautiful photos! Have a wonderful Caturday.

oh What fun?!
Enjoyed this today.

trying to figure out which foot is which in Luca's photo? contortionist indeed!

must run off and get ready to leave for the day.

Hi Jane,
What beautiful pictures of your flowers and, of course, your kitties. Emperor Karre, you look terrific, as do your "subjects".

I saw your question in Rusty's condo about the calipers. The ones that many of us here use are the 4-inch digital calipers sold by Harbor Freight. Here's the link to them in the Harbor Freight catalog: http://www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-digital-caliper-47256.html

I find them extremely useful and easy to use, particularly if you use them with a syringe, like the Terumo, that doesn't have a hollow cone above the zero line (the Monojects have this hollow cone, and it is hard to tell how much insulin gets into the cone--none should if the needle is positioned in the cone correctly, but usually it is not). The advantage of using the calipers with a syringe like the Terumo, is that even if the zero line is "off", you can always get your correct dose if you measure with the calipers from the "solid plastic line" that, in a "perfect" syringe, lines up with the zero line. There is no guess-work involved. The calipers sold by Harbor Freight can be locked at the measurement you set, so you don't have to fiddle with the numbers until you change dose size. I hope that Shai/Fitzel will find this info. of interest. If she is giving a small dose or if Fitzel is very sensitive to his dose, the calipers are great. If a larger dose, it would not be so critical to use calipers.

Have a great week. And thank you so much for continuing to visit LL and giving so freely of your time and experience.

Ella & Rusty

Hi Jane,

What a nice WCR and condo. It will be nice knowing where to find you all week.

As usual the photos are great and so much fun to look at. I'm going to get Racci's meds & shot ready now and come back to post them. I took some new photos. Maybe I'll post some in my condo if I can figure it out., that is. ohmygod_smile

TTYL.
Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

What great pictures (of the flower and the kitties). It looks like Emporer Karre is doing well, and so are the other kitties.

In reply to your message in Furball's condo, I didn't think to ask the vet for any ear drops for Furball. They gave her a two week ab shot, which lasts until Monday. I should have thought about the ear drops, but it was an emergency visit and I wasn't thinking clearly. Poor Furball threw up on me at AMPS and I had to get worked in at the vet and miss work. She's doing much better now, but I can tell her ear still bothers her. Next time I'll have to remember that ear drops work better for an ear infection.

Beautiful WCR for Karre! It seems like his majesty is basking in his green glory
Fabulous photo of the fragrant frangipani. I look forward to seeing more pictures of your lovely kitties and the garden.

Shasta & I always love reading Jane & Karre posts!!!! Love the pictures, love the kitties, and love the crystal ball! :-D

Blessings on a lovely Caturday! ~Deborah & Shasta

Greetings to His Majesty and his loyal and faithful servants, Jane and Jack.

His Imperial Majesty, Don Maximiliano sends His Imperial Majesty's best regards to His Majesty, Karre the Emperor, and thanks His Majesty for offering to begin construction on His Imperial Majesty's future abode in anticipation of His Imperial Majesty's arrival. Please inform His Majesty, Karre the Emperor that we will be sure to inquire of His Imperial Majesty, Don Maximiliano about His Imperial Majesty's palace requirements. However, as His Imperial Majesty's favorite castle still exists in Italy, see http://www.castello-miramare.it/eng/home/home.php, it may be that His Imperial Majesty would like a smaller chateau-type abode for His Imperial Majesty's time at the Falls as His Imperial Majesty makes frequent trips to Miramare, and will continue to do so.

Mandela Gold strelizia is called a Bird of Paradise here, too, Angela.

Glad to hear you are all well!!

What a great WCR report and the pictures are spectacular, the flowers are nice too.

Happy Spring to you in the southern hemisphere!

Your Majesty Karre - may I present Pirate Fitz - aka - Fitzel. - dread pirate of the 7 seas. She seeks booty of all kinds but is partial to colored diamonds, purple and red spinels, deep blue Tanzanite and generally anything sparkly and shinny - oh - and high karat gold. Especially at these prices.

In tribute for allowing her to raid and terrorize the North Hollywood Seas, Fitzel brings offerings to Emperor Karre of a paw full of sparkly gemstones - cut - calibrated and certified from GIA/EGL/and Mommy.

Arrrrrrrr and avast to all!!!!!

Now, Fitz must hoist her black sails and be off - bountiful booty awaits!!!!

Jane, Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing! Jasper is pleased and honored to hear Karre is awaiting his arrival and will do his utmost to not disappoint the Emperor. Jasper does need to deal with his beans recent reduction in test treat frequency. He is evaluating various techniques in hopes we may resume our former service level, negotiations continue. Have a great day!

Can you see that big table rock thing from your guys house? And what kind of wierd bugs live in S.A? Huh, they wouldn't be wierd to you so you wouldn't know. Never mind

 No, Table Mountain is visible from town, not from Hout Bay. We see the Sentinel from here though when we hike, and the Lion's Head, and Devil's Peak. And yes, we get weird bugs. ALL bugs are weird, to me  We get tree trapdoor spiders and babboon spiders, and really weird cicadas with these crazy long tails, and funny wasps that sting rain spiders and then feed them to their young... Pretty gruesome, the insect world!

Ok, any of you who *hate* bugs, like me - IGNORE all that! It's awesome here! Don't let this deter you ok?
Jane

Baboon spiders.....wasps that sting rain spiders??????
I need to watch more National Geographic. Hope you have a great weekm

 Shannan, it sounds crazier than it is. Most days, it's pretty standard: bees, butterflies, and whatnot. Baboon spiders are rare in these parts (and protected by concervation law) and though they look scary (at least to me), they will hardly *ever* become aggressive. Karre's late litter mate, Lucci, one caught a baboon spider! It was weird because he and Karre both *loathed* spiders and would make the funniest girmaces if they accidentally walked into a web - but I think this baboon spider was just so big that Lucci was fascinated and brought it to Jack (DH) to get a treat for being such a keen hunter

Rain spiders are more common and *completely harmless*. They *can* bite a human but will only do so when they're really in a tight spot, and they are non-venomous. They're called rain spiders here because they will come into houses a day or two before it rains. I used to be really terrified of spiders, but I figured since I live here now, I might as well just learn lots about them, and it has actually helped.

Still, I prefer most of the other wild-kingdom moments our natural setting affords us. Like tortoises, for instance - they will come into the garden and munch their way across the lawn. When we see one, we go out to it and give it salad leaves - they *love* those. I adore their little mouths, so nice and pink inside, no matter how rough and wrinkly they look *outside*! Or the porcupines that stake out our garden to see when my mother-in-law is out of the country - they never show up when she's in-country, so they must be sitting on the forested hill behind our house and watch with little procupine binoculars  When she leaves (she and her husband spend several months overseas each year), the procupines come and steal the granadilla she's growing, and the little pumpkins, and the peppadew, and they will dig up some of the flower pots too, to see if there are yummy roots there for them  She gets really mad, but I think they're awesome. Sometimes we find quills in the garden.

capeporcupine3_327w.jpg

Cute, right?

Or baby guinea fowl - soooo cute! A few months back, this mummy guinea fowl with her posse of aunts was trying to get her *tiny* babies across the very busy road next to the estate where we live. But because of all the cars, the chicks were too scared. DH and I ended up pulling over with emergency blinkers on and crawling through the shrubbery and fynbos to catch the babies and carry them over the road, and the whole time the mummy was screaming at the top of her voice, calling and calling them! We managed to rescue eleven out of twelve - as we were catching the last ones, the twelfth baby ran into the road a dozen or so yards behind us, and we couldn't get to him in time. I cried. But the mummy got almost all of them back. Guinea fowl chicks have seriously terrible survival odds, that's why there are always so many of them per clutch. Anyway - those babies were so adorable! All tiny and fluffy and chirpy! Loved them.

How can you not love those! :-D

Sheesh look at me rambling on! Obviously need more coffee!
Hugs

Whoa! We have baboon spiders here -- they are called tarantulas by us. There aren't many right here where I live, but just a little south in Mexico -- all over the place. We also have the rain spiders -- huntsmans, but they aren't supposed to be here. I found one in my house a few months ago. Once we figured out what it was I let it go in the garden. Both my mother-in-law and my cleaning lady think we are nuts because we don't kill spiders unless they are poisonous to us or the cat. The property is covered top to bottom, inside and out with Araneus diadematus Family Araneidae "Cross orbweavers" or "Garden spiders." Yup, baboon spiders are *also* called tarantulas - officially anyway. We also try to avoid killing the creepy crawlies. We had a brown button spider lady visit us once - their venom can be just a tad unpleasant...but luckily they're totally docile little spiders. You'd have to pretty mean to them to make them bite. So we don't kill those, either, even though they do have venom. Our cats seems to have a natural respect for spiders, snakes, scorpions and so on - they'll watch them closely, but won't try to "play" with them. Thank goodness! Wow, those are impressive little critters, too, those Cross Orbweavers! There are a few orb spiders down here too - the most incredible kind, to me, is the golden orb spider (genus Nephila). We've seen webs of theirs that literally span across the road in game parks! Here's a pretty good photo (I wish I had managed to take one myself at some point, but it never worked out):

I loved your kitty & vole story by the way

Hi Jane
Glad to see that Karre is doing so well OTJ!
and still giving yousome great numbers!
Thank you for the beautiful pictures!(except for the spider!)
Always a great way to start the day!
hope you have a wonderful day!

I am loving that spider picture - awesome! I am a bit of a spider fan though. DM freaks out a bit when she comes to stay and has to share the toilet with the spider clan (well not the actual toilet but the room - the spiders generally mind their business on the walls). She arrives for her next stay on Wednesday and will be pleased to find that the toilet is currently vacated. I'm not sure whether or not to tell her about the shiny black one in the bathroom. If I tell her she'll probably be nervous the whole time she's showering (if she does  ), if I don't tell her and she doesn't pull the shower curtain back too far she'll never know he's there, on the other hand if I don't tell her and she does pull the shower curtain back that far...

Whichever way it goes I suspect it's going to give me a giggle - naughty Serryn!!!

I have birds of paradise in my yard but mine are more orange than those, I wonder if they are cousins?

Go Karre Go

OMG. I just quickly scrolled through your condo. I have got to read it when I get home tonight. I love porcupines!

Gorgeous shots Jane!!! Love seeing your pics and hearing the stories :-D
Glad the Emperor and his furry subjects are doing so well!
Good on ya!

Oh, yes, do stop in again later, Dyana, we'd love that :-D

I'm glad you're all enjoying the photos - you too, Donna!

KARRE BG Update:
Meh. His Majesty is letting his eating routine slip a bit and we must have gone off-schedule somehow (i.e. not stuck properly to the 4-hourly rhythm). Yesterday, he had a 130, but brought himself down to 86 after half a can of LC and 3 hours time. Today, he started out at 117 and went *up* to 149... Fed two thirds of a can of LC just now. Re-testing in 3 hours. Come on Your Majesty... You're spoiling the fun!! DOWN, I SAY!! :?

Beautiful pictures! Flowers, kitties, even a porcupine and some guinea hens!

And then, a SPIDER!!!! :o

Spiders are my kryptonite
We need a "shudder" emoticon

I looked and looked... This is the only shuddering one I found  Sorry about the scary spider pictures, Carl! I'll post some non-arachnid photos later on, ok?

Jane

I peacefully coexist with spiders, Jane. We have an "understanding", that prohibits entering each other's space:-)

I've got hundreds of pics of turtles, sunsets and sunrises. I haven't seen any mountains lately...got any of those? The horizon here is rather flat, lol.

I love furry spiders. I've stopped my car to pick them up and help them across the road, so they don't get hit, and gently held them in my hands when I found them while hiking on Mount Diablo where I grew up
98-53-3.jpg

I'm glad Karre is bringing himself down just fine.

Oh, and thanks for the porky pine pictures :-D

Wow, I haven't checked your condo for a couple of days and missed all the new pictures. I don't kill spiders in my house unless they are poisonous. We have gotten a black widow in one time. My cats think spides are toys and try to kill them. So I have to get them out of the house as soon as I find them if I don't want the cats to kill them. I do the same thing at work. They probably think I'm crazy. If I find a spider, I put it out the front door instead of killing it.

Glad to hear Karre is still doing well.

wow - the flowers are beautiful - what a lovely garden! It is always so great to read your posts. you write so well. Even better that Karre continues to be Karre, and is doing well. Awesome!
