I am getting the insulin into her about 75-80% of the time. The Fancy Feast was proving to be too rich for the other kitties so I am now alternating with some high quality dry (I know, not the best for diabetic cats, but only a small amount once per day) and a wet limited ingredient food as 2 of the 3 (including Kali) have food allergies. Having 3 cats with completely different dietary needs is complicated!

Kali's dosage was reduced to 1.5 units as she is running low, but she looks so much better!! She was always a very skinny cat. But after a month of insulin and the diet changes, her dry skin has improved drastically, her eyes are clearer, her face has filled out and I no longer can feel every single bone down her back. She hasn't gained a lot of weight, she just doesn't look so shriveled. She seems more comfortable in general and is not constantly begging for food altho her appetite is good.

You can tell I am relieved and feeling that the twice daily injections are truly helping her. Thank you to all who helped me thru the very difficult first few weeks. No doubt I will have more questions as time goes by.

Nora, I have 3 cats too. I'm lucky that only my sugar baby has special dietary requirements. Others are just fussy, 1 civvies can/will only eat Purina 1 beef classic and only can have grain free dry or she vomits. Other civvie eats anything. Sugar baby is now on Purina one classic, Turkey and chicken, no dry food at all and cooked chicken in between. To make things easier they all get fed at same time with me standing guard so no one steals the others food. The two civvies get dry food when sugar baby gets his chicken. They are pretty much on 4 hrs feedings until my bedtime. Use to be 3 hrs, hope to make it six hours.

Nora that's great news! I'm glad to hear she's doing so well. Yes, having multiple cats on different diets is challenging for sure!

When you say you're getting the insulin into her 75%-80% of the time, do you mean the other 25% of the time you're having fur shots? Just wondering what is keeping her from getting insulin during those times and if it's anything we can help with. :)

Oh, your babies really make you work! 4 hour feedings til you go to bed and you having to be food guard is a lot. And you cook chicken for Smokey too. I have found if I turn my back even just long enough to rinse out a can, one or the other of the cats will have nudged someone away from his/her dish, so unless I sit in the midst of them, there's no guarantee of who gets what. When I do that tonight, I'll be thinking of you and our fellow cat parents doing the same thing. '-) Nora and Kali

Yes, thank you for asking, about 1 in 4 or 5 is a fur shot…either she wiggles at the last minute or I just miss. She's a skinny girl with not much "extra" and doesn't like to be held. My technique is improving and I do try to get her when she is about thru with her meal so she's a little distracted. I appreciate the help! Nora and Kali
