I am getting the insulin into her about 75-80% of the time. The Fancy Feast was proving to be too rich for the other kitties so I am now alternating with some high quality dry (I know, not the best for diabetic cats, but only a small amount once per day) and a wet limited ingredient food as 2 of the 3 (including Kali) have food allergies. Having 3 cats with completely different dietary needs is complicated!
Kali's dosage was reduced to 1.5 units as she is running low, but she looks so much better!! She was always a very skinny cat. But after a month of insulin and the diet changes, her dry skin has improved drastically, her eyes are clearer, her face has filled out and I no longer can feel every single bone down her back. She hasn't gained a lot of weight, she just doesn't look so shriveled. She seems more comfortable in general and is not constantly begging for food altho her appetite is good.
You can tell I am relieved and feeling that the twice daily injections are truly helping her. Thank you to all who helped me thru the very difficult first few weeks. No doubt I will have more questions as time goes by.
