Kahuna's passing

Crystal and Kahuna

:cry: i just wanted to let everyone know that despite Kahuna going otj a year ago in may (on old fdmb), he was diagnosed with a cancer in a mesentaric lymph node (cancer in his intestines) about 2 months ago. this occured a little over a week ago but just got up enough courage to even type about him...crying now already. he initially started to howl and was peeing outside the litter pan. i just knew it had to be another bladder infection as always. when i brought him into work (i'm an lvt at a small animal hospital) and i got a sterile sample and sent it out for a ua and culture, everything came back normal. i brought him back the next day and did bloodwork. bloodwork was also normal. next step was radiographs, which revealed the clear, 3 inch by 2 inch mass in the intestines. considering the type of cancer it probably was, i decided not to operate just to get him open and find that it's everywhere and put him through that pain also. i was giving dex injections at home in hopes of at least relieving some inflammation from the tumor to control the pain.

he did stop howling for a while but recently started to urinate more frequently outside the box and in another room as well. i couldn't stand it anymore so i made the awful decision to take him into work on my day off and have a great friend from work take me (i knew i'd be a mess). when i went in with him, he went sooo peacefully. i couldn't have asked for a better outcome for my k cat. my coworkers are awesome and were so good to me and kahuna.....with him being the trial lantus kitty for our clinic, everyone knew him!

kahuna had all the dry food (he was always a big fan of that bad stuff!) and cat nip that he could handle in his last week. after he was gone, the dr felt his abdomen and said his tumor had gotten quite a bit larger so that's why he was acting painful again. i feel more at peace that i know i did the right thing because he was hurting but he was my k babe, my talker, and my stalker (of the food bowl!). miss him everyday!!!

I am so sorry to read about Kahuna. He sounds like such a brave kitty and letting him go peacefully was the best gift you could have given him. I know that last week, when Kahuna crossed the Rainbow Bridge, all of our GAs and especially our recently GA kitties (Bear Man, Stu, Tuscany, and Latte) were at the Bridge to welcome him. And I also know that Kahuna was there with the others to welcome Kasha and Ginger when they crossed just the other day. Our kitties take good care of each other and they watch over us, too. Oh honey, I do remember you and Kahuna. I'm so sorry it was his time. But I am glad that you were able to take care of that final gift of love for him.

oh no, Crystal, I'm so sorry to read this. What a lucky kitty Kahuna was to have landed with you, because you could take care of him so well. I remember how hard you worked to get him OTJ.

I’m sorry for your loss… it’s so difficult to see the OTJ kitties leave us…

I am sorry for your loss of Kahuna. You did the best you can and you loved him like crazy and he knows it.
He will be waiting for you to join him at the bridge, someday.

Crystal, my heart goes out to you. {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}} Please accept my condolences, hon, for your loss. I'm so terribly sorry to hear about Kahuna. You did the right thing, and he's not playing in the meadows next to the Rainbow Bridge with all the others who have passed both recently, and not so recently.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved Kahuna. I know that my Bear Man, who is a newbie at the Bridge, was there to greet him on the other side. I believe that all of our GA kitties will live on in our hearts and that our bond with them can never be broken. Kahuna knew that he was much loved.

I am so very sorry for your loss of your dear Kahuna. My tears fall with your funny how they touch so many lives. What a special kitty he was. Now he is closer to you then ever he will live on in your heart ,while he plays and waits for you on the other side. I read once that "As long as we love the Lord we will never Not see them again, for we will." You gave Kahuna the best gift we can give the gift of Peace and to fly pain free. Awww, I am so very sorry. I remember you and Kahuna from last year and this is very sad to see. It was lovely that you and Kahuna had the OTJ time together before cancer took him away. Even though it made your time together shorter, you were very kind to save him from pain and suffering.

Crystal, so sorry about your kitty.
Since I too just lost my kitty, its hard, but knowing we did the best thing for them so they don't continue to suffer helps.
 
I am very sorry for your loss of Kahuna. It is so sad to lose our babies, but its really sad to lose them from C. I know you loved him very much and that you will miss him terribly. I hope in time that your fond memories will ease your pain.

thank you so much everyone for your kind words and thoughts. they really do help me to know that there are sooo many fellow kitty lovers all over the world that know much they mean to us and how much it hurts to know when it's time. kahuna's cuddle buddy, cooper, a seal point siamese has always known life with kahuna (who was 12yrs old while cooper is 7yrs) so it's sad to see him also going through his stages of grief and loss. i just wish i could explain it to him but meanwhile he's getting kahuna's share of lovings :cry:
