My 8 yr old Calico, Elphie, was diagnosed today with diabetes. I knew something was wrong as she was drinking a lot and lost weight.
She is now on insulin 2x a day for now until she is regulated.

I gave her her first shot tonight and I'm still traumatized over it. She's fine. Momma isn't

Do you have a glucose meter yet? Just about everyone here uses a human meter because the strips are so cheap. If you test his blood before feeding and giving the shot you will avoid the risk of life threatening hypoglycemic events. Try to read as much as possible. There is so much as information to learn. If you want to ask any questions, Post them on the Health forum. It's the main board. Welcome to our board. You will find the greatest group of helpers.

Hello and welcome with Elphie.
First, take a deep breath..... and another one.... and now a reaaaaalll big breath! :joyful:
Ok, hope you are doing good right now?
We've all been in your shoes, starting off with the diagnose, it's no fun to hear that your little fur baby has diabetes but remember it's not a death sentence, because when your kitty is well regulated they live the same long life as other 'healthy' kitties.
What type of insulin are you using now? And are you going to home test Elphie? This is really important because A. You can check how your kitty is doing and with that knowledge you can depend the dosis of insulin and B. it saves you a lot of money instead of going to the expensive vet for blood glucose readings. We all test our kitties at home, it's not scary at all!
If you have any questions, please ask them! Don't hesitate because we are all in this together and more than willing to help you!
Please know that you are not alone:)
