Hi everyone. I have just forced the vet to give me ProZinc as Caninsulin really was not working for Romulus. I need to get to know how this insulin works, so I am about to be reading the stickies. Vet dosed due to the guidelines on the bottle and as he is 17lb, he is on 2 units twice a day.

Welcome! Glad you're reading the stickies. Any questions - just ask. We are a small but friendly group. If you have an emergency, post here and on Health so you get the most eyes. If you read the threads and look at spreadsheets, you'll see how ProZinc is working for others.

Canninsulin and ProZinc work similarly, no depot and usually with a smile curve. It looks like Romulus bounced a lot on Canninsulin, or the insulin didn't last long enough. He may still bounce on ProZinc, but if duration was the issue, the cycle may improve.

It looks like he was on 1.25 most lately on Canninsulin with some blue midcycle. Two units seems like a big jump up in dose - monitoring the first few cycles will give an idea of how that works. We usually suggest cutting back a smidge when switching from one insulin to another, not increasing.

Could you please start a new spreadsheet for ProZinc? With my IPad, it takes a long time to get down to his latest doses.

Welcome to the forum! The stickies are excellent, you will find the Prozinc a little gentler and longer lasting than Caninsulin. We have some rubber kitties at the moment, some are behaving themselves and mine is just doing her own thing. I think you will find it useful to do a curve as soon as Rom has settled from the change to see where he nadirs and you can take it from there.

Hi and welcome!
No one objects if you make a new thread everyday here! We are all here to help eachother. If you have any questions please ask!

I see that Romulus dropped 6.3 points in 3 hours, this is a lot, to be carefully monitoring him because he probably will drop some more. Not trying to scare you, please don't be but try monitoring him up until +5 or +6 so you can see what he's doing and if needed steer him up.
As Sue mentioned, I would also agree with her to give less insulin at this point instead of 2U, because the PMPS and the +3 are indicating that 2U is a little too much right now.
Are you convertable with lowering the dose?

What kind of food are you giving him? And does he get a snack around this time? I see he dropped +4 to 6.9 right now... i would give a little medium carb snack right now if you have that?

He got it right now? Great! Yes I know that brand, I give it to one of my kitties too.
Can you still monitor untill +5?
