Hi,
We are getting there, BG is averaging 136, but have hit a block, not every day, and not every pee, he shows trace blood on his urine dipstick, Ketones are still Negative, glucose is getting lower, and his vet wants to start him on Amocicillin 50 mg BID for 21 days, My feeling is it to much without a definite idea of why the blood. She did a cystoscopy to get a sample at his exam, back the end of june, and she said and the lab report said blood, she said that was from the test, and he was on amoxicillin 50 mg BID for 10 days after his exam.
This has me baffled, not sure what step to take next, any ideas?
we are still stranded on the other side of the river after the bridge washed out, so she can't come here, and at the moment , he can't go there.

any help, ideas, suggestions???

Some cats have what is called sterile cystitis. Something is irritating/inflaming the bladder resulting in blood but it is not due to an infection. Sometimes the source is never found out. My Patches has had that a couple of times. First step to to check to see if it is an infection. if not an infection, the treating is usually pain meds and subq fluids

Is that why it doesn't show up all the time?
He doesn't seem to be having any pain, and he pees quite a lot, he has what I was told is a large bladder, and only pees once every 10 to 12 hrs, especially now that he is using insulin, and on all wet food.
is the test something that can be done at home, or have to go to the vets?

We are still stranded on the other side of the river since sunday when the rains flooded our bridge and knocked it down.

it will be a few weeks before I can get him across, or the vet can get across, and I am not sure I want the vet, she caused his bleeding bad during his exam.

There is not much you can do yourself. Giving subQ fluids would help. If Junior is acting OK I wold not be concerned for the time being.

Or if you don't have access to subq fluids until things get cleared up, you could also try increasing his fluid intake orally. You can do this by mixing water in with his food to make it soupier (as long as he'll eat it), and/or by mixing some water with baby food (meat only varieties, make sure these are the only ingredients) and feeding it in addition to to his regular meals.

Hi Larry & Julia,

I will take Larry's advice, and relax, Junior seems ok, no temp, purring, and all that....

and I will take Julia's advice and add in some extra water to his wet food, and give him extra watery in between meal/snacks!

thanks for your help, hope it works!
