I spoke with the vet at lunch time, she feels it is his teeth and gums causing the problem with eating and she thinks his numbers aren't that bad...

So I will pick up Clindamycin tonight and we will see how that goes, he took it last year also, it helped then, hope it helps again.
She also said he probably needs some of his teeth pulled....big bucks, told her I would start saving, or get a loan if needed.

also, she wants to give him some Mirtazapine for appetite.

hoping all works.

infobit:
The Clindamycin will knock out the good bacteria as well as the bad. It may be helpful to pick up some FortiFlora to give a few hours after the Clindamycin dose, to help repopulate the good bacteria and possibly reduce the odds of diarrhea and/or vomiting, which some cats experience on antibiotics (even ones they handled OK previously).

And some cats really, really like the smell and taste of FortiFlora, so it may perk up appetite a little, too.

Regarding FortiFlora, I now have another med, Mirtazapine for appetite stimulation, the vet said this would work with the Clindamycin.

I am so confused, and scared, different lab numbers, SG is high, no , it's low, it means kidney failure., no, it is just his teeth/gums...

So here we go, new med sheet for the frig, with diet plan, shot plan, and BG #'s w/times.

and I had a thought, I feed with a feeder at lunch time due to work, if he eats the rest just before I get home and test, that would be a food spike, right, so his high numbers in the pm could be due to that, just a thought...

Last night and this morning I had to hand feed him, and no shot this morning, not enough food in him.

Calling emergency vet when I get home, regular vet doesn't even understand spread sheets, wanted to know why no times were listed, and what does +6 mean?
had to explain shots @ 6am and 6 pm, then the rest follows...I think she got it...I hope Junior and I get it right!

Yes, the mirtazapine may help with appetite; but it won't replace the good bacteria that get killed off by the Clindamycin.

You may find Junior has diarrhea from the Clindamycin after a day or two. The FortiFlora may be helpful in preventing that (and diarrhea can upset the glucose levels too).

Thanks for the info, will keep an eye out for loose poops.

and will get some FortiFlora, Natural Food store?

heading home to get set up...no computer at home, working on getting Satellite for computer, living in the mountains is beautiful, but can be a pain at times.

will update in am.

thanks to all.

Online is usually the least expensive place to get FortiFlora; otherwise, your vet may carry it.
