I am so sorry you kitty has gone though that you put thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

regarding the 2 units I mesure it with the insolin pen so I dont draw in a syringe. I screw a 8mm needle tip on the pen turn the dial to 2 and inject. the Friday morning I had to draw in a syringe and to the second line on a u-100 needle .50ml/cc. when I use the pen I have to prime 2 units out and then turn to 2 and inject. 3 tiny little drops come out of the tip of the needle that's it. it does seem like with a syringe its draw way more. when I talked to my regular vet on the phone they said that 2 units was a very low does and would be very surprised if thay hurt him in anyway. but I see them on monday so I'll go over that with them again.
I think you should look into syringes instead. We recommend here adjusting dose by .25 increments and with the pen you can only do full units. The syringes work great you can just insert the tip into the rubber part of the pen and it allows you to draw as much or as little but it gives you more control to finesse the amounts

Welcome to FDMB!

Binky's page for food is a bit out of date. One of our members put together information on food that's available in Canada. It will make shopping for a broader range of food easier. We recommend keeping the carbohydrates under 10% -- although most of the members here feed their cat around 5%, more or less.
thank you I appreciate all the help I can get.

So I have to just share this cause I am over happy with joy. found out today my glucose meter is broke its self new battery will only stay on for a minute or 2.. however with all of everyone's help I was able to just get a blood sample while the meter was on. now keep in mind his "no insulin" readings stay around 26mmol I am happy to report when I tested it 13.2 that as the vet said is a good drop now we just have to figure out actual dosing so we get and keep him in the normal rang. Thank you again everyone

Congratulations on getting the test. The 13.2 (237) is a lovely number. How long after insulin was the reading?

Some FYIs:
Most meters turn themselves off after 90 seconds or so.
Insert the strip partway into the meter, then jab the ear. Once you have a workable drop of blood, insert the strip all the way and take the reading.
You can also jab, then transfer the drop of blood onto a clean fingernail, then do the meter.

Woo hooo good job!

7 hours after his shot. 730am taken at 230p. it says replace battery before it shuts off and I had just replaced them plus meter was just bought Friday. and I did the strips part way jab then made sure was a nice drop then took the reading. I started filling in the beautiful spreadsheet chris did for me. still got to figure out what some of the blood work acronyms are.
