I know you all said that his numbers could rise when i changed the insulin to 1 unit and I understand that
the increase has not yet hit his system. He is eating alot more and therefore his numbers are rising but
should i be really worried about the 477? When i get home today i will test his ketone level in his urine.
He is acting normal, eating, playing etc but 477 is awfully high. What do you think?
Thanks so much
Nadine

He likely went lower at nadir (lowest point in the cycle, usually 5-7 hours after shot) than he is used to, so his liver threw out some glucose in a panic reaction. We call that a bounce. Hold the line.

So hard to be patient, I know! Hold on and let's see what Tibbs can do after a little more time at 1u.

yes. thanks. i only changed his dose yesterday so i figure on staying at the 1 unit for at least a week or more? he is finally eating more consistently. when i brought him home after 4 days at the vet from his dka he wasn't eating at all. i was just feeding him anything at all just to get him to eat. now that he is doing better, i will start trying to change him over slowly to no carb food. he does eat wet but likes the gravy fancy feast which is not good for him. it will take time but i will get him over to the good stuff. (which of course will also effect his insulin levels). his pmps is due at 11:30 pm so we'll see if he's still bouncing. thanks for the encouragement.

A way to trick him into thinking he has gravy is to mix warm water into the food so its about the consistency of oatmeal. I started with a 1/4 can water to a can of food and slowly worked up to a 50/50 mix. Now if I just dump a can of food in front of mine straight from the can they look at me as if I've lost my mind. that's a great idea. i can fake him into thinking he's got gravy. fantastic. i'm trying that first thing tomorrow. thanks!!!
