AMPS - 352 - 1.25 u
+4 - 278
+6 - 348!?

Not sure why BG raised between 4+ and 6+. The only thing I can think of is that Josie ate about 1/4 tablespoon of EVO that was left in her dish between these two readings. I would not have thought that small amount would have raised her BG that much, but I don't have another explanation.

Regardless, I think I am going to have to increase the AMPS. She has never really had low numbers after the AMPS. Usually she is in the yellows during this time and even when it's blue, it's higher blue. So I think we have room to increase. I am thinking she needs 1.5 units.

The PMPS is a different story. I never know what to give her. It seems her numbers drop fast and quickly after the PM shot. Even if the PS numbers are really high. I'm not sure if her pancreas is kicking in during this time or if there is another reason. (It's not food... she eats the same amount twice per day.)

I just feel like I am underdosing her at the AMPS and sometimes overdosing her during at the PMPS and I want to break this cyle!

Complicated, Holly. Some of those higher amps can have been caused by the lower numbers overnight. Are you still giving the antibiotic? If so, that muddies the picture. And if it was dry EVO, yes, even a few bites.

The other possibility is an inverse curve - going up in the middle can mean too much insulin, not too little.

To me, there are too many variable to make a different dosing decision right now.

Yes, you can dose a different amount am and pm. I'm just not sure what the dose for either should be right now.

Good morning Holly -

When I get a number like that, that's so far out in left field, I usually do a re-test, just in case it was a fluke or "wonky" number. I get them from time to time - especially if I've had to really work to get enough blood on the strip and/or time has gotten near the point of "error". Just a good policy to check.

Re: Josie - 3/07 PMPS - 244

OK, so Josie's PMPS (noon) was 244. My husband fed her and tested within a half an hour and it's 255.

I'm kind of shocked. I don't know if her number is falling OR if the +6 was just wrong.

At this point, we are waiting an hour and retesting. She's eaten about half the food she would normally eat. I would like to give her .50, but I'm afraid the number is going down, not up. Plus, just a few days ago she got pretty low with 1.0 unit at 350. So I'm thinking she'd get just as low, if not lower, with .50 at 244.

I hate to make her rise higher, because the goal is NOT to go above 240. But I don't want to come home to a hypo kitty, either. Plus the really low numbers always equal much higher numbres later.

Am I smart to wait an hour and re-test. Or should I give her .25?

Any thoughts?

Thanks for your thoughts, Sue. Yes, she is complicated! And that's interesting that a high middle number can mean too much insulin. I didn't know that.

Yeah, I kind of wish I would have. Although the amount of blood was decent and it didn't I got it onto the strip quickly. I do wish I'd retested, though, since now her PMPS is much lower! If it was a bad reading and her +6 was really much lower, than her numbers now would make more sense. If it was accurate, than her number is falling and I wouldn't want to shoot. It would be good to have a second reading for +6.

Out of the blue one day I got a 154. Was on my way to dinner w/ a neighbor, and worried the entire time. Had I just thought to do a second test, I could've relaxed & enjoyed. Instead I raced home to find her number up where I would've expected if it hadn't been so low. No rhyme or reason, it seems.
