Joey - SLGS protocol question

Hi all!

We’ve been following SLGS protocol and on Oct 29 Joey went below 5 mmol/L (90 US mgdl). As per protocol, his next insulin shot was decreased by 0.25units on Oct 30 (today).
Our question is how long do we remain at this insulin level before we reassess again? He hasn’t had great blood glucose numbers today (Oct 30).

thanks!

The exception to what Carla posted is that you reduce again if he goes below 90, at any time during those 7 days. Great catch last night!

Are you home testing him for ketones? With DKA in the past, and him being quite often in higher numbers, it's a good practice to get into. You can either test with a blood ketones meter, or do a urinary ketones test:

Update on Joey, he’s had much better blood glucose levels over the last two weeks.
Unfortunately he’s had diarrhea for the past 12 hrs and isn’t feeling well (but eating fine so he’s received insulin as usual). We’re not sure what’s causing the diarrhea as he eats the same food every day.
We’re waiting to hear back from the vet on what we can/should give him.
Any suggestions?

You can mix some plain canned pumpkin into his food. That helps with diarrhea. I've given a teaspoon at a time to Furball before. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
