Jezebel has been 5 years OTJ and I will be forever grateful to the Lantus Board to her life! I've had another 5 years to enjoy her irrestible cuteness!

She has now been diagnosed with Small Cell Intermediate Lymphoma. Several areas are affected....Small Intestines, Lymph nodes, liver and kidneyse showed as atypical on the ultrasound. My vet is sending me various options for her. One is Chemo...the other Prednisone. I'm not sure I want to put her through Chemo with the limited lab results I have. She is also 15 1/2.

Any experiences anyone can share would be appreciated.

Thanks...
Debie & Jezebel

Chemo for small-cell is just a pill/capsule typically now dosed every two weeks. Frequently prednesolone is also given. See.

Th chemo drug is chlorambucil and if obtained from a compounding pharmacy like RoadRunner or or DiamonBack is reasonably priced.
Years ago I adopted Mario at 15 years as an untreated diabetic. A little later he was diagnosed with small cell intestinal lymphoma and he has a good live for about two more years.

Chemo buys you a little time. Depending on the cat, there may or may not be adverse reactions to it.

I'm sorry you've received this news about your furkitty! That's a tough decision to make, when kitty is a senior. You'll make the right choice.Lord, be with Debie and help her follow the path You have laid out. Thank you for letting them be together for this long! Amen(hugs for you and chin screetches for Jezebel).

My boy is 8, newly diabetic and now being tested for Lymphoma or it could be Inflammatory Bowl Disease since they both mimic each other on the ultrasound. We sent blood work to Univ. of TX to gain more insight of how advanced it is but it still won't tell if it is Lymphoma or IBD. We're waiting for those results. Next step is to do an endoscopy. The specialist seems to think if Lymphoma she suspects it will be small cell and claims it is treatable and will give him another 3-5 years. Being diabetic it does complicate what meds they can have. We also just switched from Vetsulin to Lantus and I need to learn how to do the glucose checks at home. Since last week I've been giving him anti nausea med injections too so upto 3 shots a day. How much can these babies take? Am I being selfish for putting him though all this? Please let me know how things go and what you decide.

I am going to have an oncology consult. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. She has been OJT for 5 years but the last round of vaccines she had....she didn't eat for three days! So I believe she is very reactive to meds. I also have to see if I can get a pill down her throat...lol! Had no trouble with the shots. She is such a good girl! I'll keep everyone posted.

Get as much info as you can;
Give as much love as you can;
And you’ll do the right thing.

Blessings to you and Jezebel.

Good luck. I know how stressful this is for you. And obviously you have to take into account what her quality of life will be like either way. Keep us posted.

So sorry about the unhappy news on Jezebel's health. I know how hard it is when there are so many decisions to make regarding treatment. (Have been through that with 3 wonderful dogs over the years; 1 with breast cancer, the other two with liver cancer.) Just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you and your sweet Jezebel.

Small cell cats can live a long time. Please join the yahoo feline lymphoma list where you will get lots of help including some from a wonderful IM vet that helps out there. I'm a little confused though my cat had intermediate cell intestinal lymphoma which is more aggressive than small cell. Do you have the lab report? :bighug:

Which list? There seem to be many? She has small to intermediate lymphocytes with extreme large lymphoid cells in the small intestine and lymph nodes.

Feline-lymphoma@yahoogroups.com is the one that gets people with cats with all types of lymphoma. There is another one just for small cell. If you don't have a copy of all labs as well as the biopsy results please get one and post it there. If you have trouble joining let me know. Yahoo is a pain at times and it can take too long for membership to get approved which is usually just a formality.

Hi

I am sorry that you and Jezebel are going through this.

My cat is also diet controlled thanks to the group but we are battling IBD and have the shadow of small cell lymphoma hanging over us. Remi has gone back onto 1.25 mg steroid eod and so far had avoided having to go back on the insulin. He is on a low carb novel protein diet but I have joined the small cell yahoo group as his symptoms aren't quite under control.

I would advise joining as they can talk you through test results and dosing protocols

I got an automatic reply and was accepted. I sent an email (after creating a yahoo account) and attached her pathology. Thanks so much for the help!

Think I joined the wrong group....but now have put in a request using the link you sent. The other one took me to a site that mainly deals with younger kitties.

Actually I don't know why they don't change that about the younger ones. I almost didn't join because Tiffany was 10 or 11 at the time. Most of the kitties are old, as old as 18-20 so dint ge put off by that. This group has been around much longer. Dr. Jory responds to both groups though. :bighug:

I just checked and saw your post. Yahoo groups don't accept attachments so you need to copy and paste or re type the biopsy report. Sorry about that.

Jez took a turn for the worse yesterday so I had planned to take her in and help her across the bridge today. But in typical Jez fashion, she took matters into her own paws and passed peacefully sometime during the night.

Debie, I am so sorry to hear that Jezebel has crossed the Bridge. :(

There's no good way to lose our little ones, but I am grateful for the life that you shared and that you were spared that most painful of decisions, and that Jezebel was peaceful.

((((Debie and Spirit Jezebel))))

So very sorry for your loss. God bless Jezebel as she begins the journey to her new life across the Bridge. {{{hugs}}}
