Hi Everyone - I was able to do more testing today. It's not an "exact" curve with testing every 2 hours, but it's the best that I could do. I'm wondering if I need to go up to 1.75 units of Levemir twice a day starting this evening.

I think the 'hi' #s are from the fluoxetine taper, so I've been nervous about introducing too many variables, but now I'm worried about the high BG #s. I do check for ketones with a urine strip periodically and this morning it was clear (no ketones).

His appetite is great and he has been gaining weight and seems to be a happy kitty and very vocal about wanting the Glycobalance dry food :-/ I give him glycobalance canned first, which he will eat. It's not my first choice in food, but he loves it, so that could also be contributing to the 'hi' readings.

Thanks for your help!

Patti --

If there's any way you can transition Jett off of Glycobalance, you will likely see an improvement in his numbers. The canned Glycobalance is 14% carb. We consider low carb below 10% and most of us give our cats less than 5% carb. I haven't looked at the carbs in the dry version but I have absolutely no doubt the carbs are even higher. Almost all of the Royal Canin foods are very high in carbs. Jett may love the food but you're feeding a diabetic the equivalent of ice cream and candy. Your vet should know better!

I really want to encourage you to get at least one test every PM cycle. This is especially important as you start to see changes in Jett's numbers.

I would love to see Jett on a low carb food before you changed his dose. Some cats have a very marked change in their BG numbers once they are on a low carb, canned food diet. I don't know if that will happen with Jett. If you can't change the food soon, then the dose looks like it needs to be increased.

Hi Patti, great Jett update. I agree with Sienne. A before bed test could be very telling. Especially in a case like tonight where it looks like he could be coming down from a bounce.

Thanks so much for your observations and feedback! I was beside myself when Jett was hospitalized in October and the vet gave him the Glycobalance dry food, when I had weaned him off dry completely in July 2016. I've been successful getting him to eat the low carb Weruva Fowl Ball canned, but he stopped eating it back in Feb. A 9 lb 5 oz cat is better than a 7 lb cat, so I'm grateful he is gaining weight. He's eating, has energy, and his coat looks great unlike when he was eating Young Again and Weruva. I am very frustrated by the RC food ingredients and would never choose it. I will continue to try to get him back on the Weruva canned, but there is no way to predict if he will cooperate.

I will get a before bed test.

Thanks!
Patti
