The day we got the news Jester might be in remission should have been a happy one.

But that was also the day Jester stopped eating regularly. He had been eating pretty well the day before, but just stopped for no reason last Monday.

Yesterday at his visit, he was down another 7 ounces, to 9 lbs. 14 ounces. ( Last summer he weighed 12.5 pounds. )

The vet gave him an appetite stimulant and a shot of B12 yesterday., and said it should start to work in a couple of hours. Five hours later Jester was still just nibbling and I syringe fed him some prescription food. (Blood tests showed nothing out of the ordinary. )

Nothing more all night - a little nibble here and there, but no serious eating.

He asks me for food, but walks away from it.

I don't know what to do anymore. My Bastian has cancer and will be leaving me soon and now this with my Jester.

Out of desperation, I tried giving Jester some freeze dried salmon cat treats.

He ate between fifteen and twenty of them.

Then I offered him some of my Bastian's dry foods (normally verboten on two fronts - diabetes, of course, but also because Jester had a blockage when he was about a year old and has been on Hill's CD ever since.
Bastian's dry food is standard stuff.

But Jester did eat it - far more enthusiastically than any of the wet stuff.

This is, of course, anecdotal. It remains to be seen if he's willing to eat more.

Often when cats are nauseous they will eat dry food or treats. This could be pancreatitis. It's much more common than people and some vets think. The classic sign is pretty normal labs but just not acting right. I agree with Bron that ondansetron or cerenia would be good to try to see if nausea is a problem.

Max also block when he was around 5 and I nearly lost him. He was put on CD. when he got pancreatitis many years later my vet said to switch to any canned food. Many vets don't keep them on CD forever any more. I'd ask your vet about that as well.

I agree it sounds like pancratitis. The treatment is typically cerenia for nausea, sub q's, and bupe for pain. Let the vet know if he's not eating normally by tomorrow. Can you post his labs.

The vet really wants to get me off his tally sheets. I told him about the pacreatitis and he started talking about what the causes of pacreatitis might be including cancer.

Jester and I have an appointment tomorrow with the vet that's been taking care of Bastian pretty much off the books.

Crossing my fingers for any kind of positive outcome.

Btw, what are vines?
