Hi my feline Jesse has just been diagnosed. He seems to be hating his new diet but it seems to have already helped him. As for me, his owner, I am totally overwhelmed. I haven't been able to come up with enough money to buy his first vial of insulin but I am trying. I have applied for help everywhere. I will figure it out, there is no other option. I'd do anything for Jesse.

Hi. My Mia was just diagnosed last week, so it is all new for me, too. I hope you are able to find the money you need; I can only imagine how that adds to the stress of it. The food change is stressful enough. I have been going through so many of the 'healthy' wet foods trying to find the ones my babies will eat enough of while also getting them used to being fed at certain times rather than free feeding on dry food. At least you know you are not alone! We will get through this. :bighug:
 
Thank you Janet. That is the list my vet gave me. I been feeding fancy feast and my vet asked me to do under 7% carbs so I have. He hasn't been tested again but he has stopped the frequent peeing and drinking lots water. He goes on Tuesday to start insulin if his numbers still up. I considered trying to test him but he won't let me touch his ears. I have been trying but I'm scared I'll hurt him. I have been reading forums and watching videos so I'm prepared if I have to!!! It took me this long to afford the insulin. I see it for cheap but that kinda scares me not knowing who they are, no offense. I go back to vet on Tuesday and we are in constant contact so I'm praying for the best. He seems good. By the way, how do I get his photo on my posts? I'm an internet dummy I guess

Top right corner should have your username | Inbox | Alerts. Hover the mouse over your user name, a drop down menu will appear. Click on "avatar". Will take you to another page. Select "Upload". Find the picture you want (may need to be resized if it's too big), then click "Save" :).

For the ear touching, there are desensitization exercises we can help with if you post over on the Main Health Forum (<- Click that text to get there ;))
 
To add an avatar picture, hover your mouse over your user name in the upper right screen. Pick Avatar near the bottom of the left hand menu options. You can then browse to the photo you want to use , select it and click OKAY.

I'd work on the home testing to make sure you can do it if insulin is still needed. If you want to order insulin from the supply closet, we can point you to reputable sellers.

I'm glad you are seeing positive changes just from the food change. What you can do is try to desensitize him to having his ears touched. anytime you pet him, give his ears a stroke, then a low carb snack (a piece of chicken, freeze dried meat snacks, deli meat without fillers, catnip). The idea is to have him associate getting his ears touched with a snack so he'll be more receptive of it, and you'll be able to test him eventually.
 
Thanks, I know it's funny he loves his face and ears rubbed...but hard. I know that's sounds strange but it's true. When I try to like grab one ear to inspect, etc. he freaks. To say the least he's a strange boy, but he's my strange boy. I'll keep at it. All the help here will be my salvation right now it seems. I know I must.
I on my way to work but I'll post Tuesday after the vet. Supposed to start insulin, let's all pray I don't hAve to!
