hi everyone. Today Jesse goes back to start his insulin. I am concerned though. He has done great with the diet change and all his symptoms are gone (heavy urinating and wAter drinking). I asked the vet will she test him again before he gets insulin and she acted like she would not. I could have Misunderstood, but isn't there a chance he may not need it? I am just hoping I guess.

I know. I'm going at 2 pm. I haven't tested because I was scared, I was kinda hoping I wouldn't have to but I will. I am going back today and I will get numbers. Surely after 2 weeks of original diagnose she would test before dosing??? Don't they keep Meters at the vet? I am so confused, I was relying on her to test him once more. I won't let her unless she does. Thanks for advice. I go at 2pm, I'll text later...

Home testing isn't as scary as it sounds. And it's better than going in to shadow mode and staring at kitty all the time :bighug:. Indeed since you tried diet change first, surprised she didn't want to re-test to see where he is .
For when you get back later, you might want to setup your Signature with some information about Jesse: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/editing-your-signature-profile-and-preferences.130340/
This is the Spreadsheet (SS) template most of us use and the link will go in your Signature: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/
Understanding the SS: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/understanding-the-spreadsheet-grid.156606/
And lastly, read over this ahead of time because it's better to be prepared but I hope you'll never need: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/how-to-treat-hypos-they-can-kill-print-this-out.15887/

Don't hesitate to ask us any questions about home testing or anything :)

Thank you I plan to. I hope I misunderstood her but I have no intention of letting her give him insulin today without a new test. I am going to get the meter today as well. Even if he has gotten better, ill need to keep an eye on his levels. This is all so freakin scary but I love my fat boy and want him healthy... even if he won't be my fat boy anymore!!! I'll post after my appt today.
Thank you I am so confused and you can't imagine how much of a relief having someone to ask questions.

Did you need a shopping list for testing supplies?
A lot of us use a human glucometer from Walmart, ReliOn Confirm or Micro (Only difference is meter size).
1. Meter ($15)
2. Test strips ($35.88 / 100)
3. 26 or 28 gauge lancets ($4)
4. Neosporin / triple antibiotic ointment (Polysporin if CAN) ($3)
5. Ketone test strips
6. A treat for yourself ;)

Thank you. That will be very helpful, I plan to get this today. Should I try to test him before I leave for vet? Wouldn't that be a good idea? Not sure if I can but I can try

What about Relion Prime? It's on sale strips too. Would it work as well?
The Prime requires a larger blood drop than the Micro, etc. Once your poke technique is tuned up it should work fine and is easier on the wallet when you buy its test strips. Buy thicker lancets (26-28 gauge) because they'll give you more blood per poke.

I am going to try and test him before vet. Can someone tell me what normal ranges
It's definitely nerve wracking the first few times, then testing really is no big deal. Watch the video link in my signature showing how I test my cat CC.
