I guess it's worth it to start getting pm numbers if only to see blue. Sure much nicer than all those blacks.

re the previous thread

I didn't get a pm+2, I figured it was just going to be high. I did get a pm +10 which was blue. She had not eaten for 10 hrs. 2 hours after feeding it was back up but at least not black. I'll test a few more times today and tonight I will plan a pm +2 and try for an earlier post pm. Maybe we are getting on track.

I can tell that she is feeling better since we now have to play hide and seek at testing or shot time.

I'm glad you got a lovely blue :)

They often have lower numbers at night time.
Did you feed her at +10? I think that's what you said, but I'm not sure.

I fed her after I tested at +10. Since I took away the dry food all the cats are ready to eat the minute I get up, well after I get the coffee perking and the wood stove fired up (our only heat is the wood stoves). So the amps number was 2 hours after feeding.

I'm guessing that fasting brings the numbers way down. She gets FF pate or sometimes Friskies pate mixed with it. She wants to eat all day, but I am trying to schedule in feedings at more regular hours.

Yay Jesse! Blue is such a pretty color on you!

Yes, if you fed at +10 you could be seeing a food spike at your AMPS.

Cobb often has lower numbers at night. Both times he's dipped into the greens it has been at nighttime - highly inconvenient, but it was green so who am I to complain?

Great job! Let's see some more blue and green Jesse!!

You don't want to feed after +10, but I guess you already know that.

You did a good job getting that night time test :thumbup

I know it's a lot to learn.

I didn't know you can't feed after +10. There is no way I can get up at +9 or +10 in the am and not feed anyone. When can I feed? At night they all get fed their main meal at the same time that she gets her shot.

You can do some boiled chicken (unseasoned) to tide him over. No carbs. We started doing that with Cobb, especially during the day because he naps through the best feeding times. If you have to feed, just know that can affect those preshot numbers.

This will be tricky in the morning if not probable. Is there a monkey wrench icon that can be thrown in. :? I do use no carb mostly in the day for extra feedings or post testing treats.

That was going to be my next question...is feeding that late ok if you're using a zero carb pate? Curious what the more experienced folks will say.

This may be a dumb question but is moving your shot time a possibility? If you shot at what is now your +10, everything would be 2 hours earlier and you might be able to get some PM tests.

Depending on how many cats are waiting for breakfast, a timed feeder might be a solution. Feeding after nadir in cats that are not yet regulated means that there's less insulin available to help offset the effects of food. Feeding at +10 can inflate your pre-shot number.

Except that I would then be shooting at 3 am. I can't guarantee that I won't sleep through it. She has been so sensitive that changing again I think would throw her for a loop. I'm trying to protect her already compromised kidneys.

There has to be some sort of line where you do what you can and is at least somewhat realistic. Somewhere in the middle of all this I have over 100 other animals to care for if you count all the chickens plus I have to make a living. Jesse is one of my favorites so I'll just have to figure it out. I spent 24 hours pondering if this whole thing would even be possible to do before I started.

I thought I was doing good by removing all the dry for all the cats and dealing with the last two weeks of behavior issues because of it, and a few of them have been a major pita. One cat has been so mad he walks around and knocks things off counters just to show his unhappiness. If I got up and made them all wait two hours or more to eat, there would be a mutiny.

Maybe I can make up a no carb morning meal for everyone. But, is any kind of food bad, low carb or no carb?

Hi guys .. oh yay for blues jesse!! I know how hard it can be to manage FD, let alone handling it with over 100 other animals! Have a great day guys!

Hi Karin! I haven't met you yet and wanted to say hi and welcome.

YAY that Jesse got a blue! woot!

i think you have to work with your life - and YIKES i wouldn't want to even get up at 3am much less shoot then. if that's your situation, then just go with it. feed them at +10ish and retest at amps and shoot then. i don't think it's going to make that much difference - just so you know that it might be a tiny bit higher than if she hadn't eaten 2 hrs earlier. that's the only point of "don't feed after +10" is just because there will be carbs in the picture. as long as you know that's always the same situation, you can take that into consideration if you get a low preshot number.

going to sleep when the sun goes down sounds wonderful. :-D

anyway, glad you're here! it's a lot to learn so just keep asking questions. trying to find the info can be a real challenge. it's all here on this forum somewhere in the yellow stickies, but i remember how hard it was to find things at first. A lot of the info you're going to want now is going to be on the New to the Group sticky. The single topic posts, like the New Dose Wonkiness and bouncing one is in that sticky near the bottom of the page.

but if you can't find things, just ask - someone will dig things up for you.
