We just don't know what to do! He's always had what we thought were allergies. Mostly because that was what we were told they were.
We took him to the vet several years ago, and they gave him some pills along with a shot and some eye grease. It seemed to work out fine then. This even was before he had diabetes. He's had this for several years now. He has only had diabetes for 2 1/2 years. He will be 15 years old this year.
This fall he came down with the same old allergies, runny eyes with a reddish brown discharge and swollen face. He just looked miserable. It didn't clear up in a week so we took him to the vet again in August of last year, pill, eye grease and shot. It sorta cleared up. His face is still swollen and continues to have runny eyes. Now they say he has bronchitis. They've given pills (the pills now cause him to vomit and have diarrhea and when we told a second dr from the same clinic this, they told us "Well I don't know why he prescribed that, those pills are poisonous to cats!" WHAT?!)
Soooo... it's been over 6 months and STILL this thing hasn't cleared up. We took him again to the vet (we live in Pasquotank County and went to see Dr. Cooper) and he is now referring us to a specialist in VA to look at his eyes because the dr. has "exhausted all of his knowledge" of how to deal with it.
What are we doing wrong? Should we have taken him somewhere else?
He is otherwise pretty health considering his diabetes, however his weight fluctuates so much and the dr. tells us every thing is fine. I mean 2 pounds change up or down each month kind of fluctuation.
Long story short, symptoms include: runny eyes (clear discharge, some time some green discharge), swollen face, lethargy, large pupils, sensitivity to light. He often walks around our home with his eyes closed. He would rather pretend he's blind then open his eyes.
