He has an appointment with the oncologist at VSC (same place I took him for the biopsy) next Weds. That doesn't seem soon enough for me, but was the first appointment they had (that says something sad about the cancer rates in cats & dogs, I think). I am on a waiting list if something opens up sooner.

I spoke with a tech, not the doctor, so could not get much info on treatment or his prognosis. That is something the doctor can tell me after she goes over his path report and examines him. So, more days of waiting with the unknown.

The consult is $128 and chemo meds, if they are an option and I choose to go ahead with them, range in the $150-300 per session and he might have to come 3-6 times. Chemo costs are based on weight so, as she put it, I am fortunate that he is a cat and not a large dog. There is still some money from the chip in to cover at least the start of chemo.

Jeddie seem himself: sleeping and eating*; getting on my lap, but not as much; going out on the balcony, but not as much. I think he has a new red spot on his lower lip. He can't keep himself clean, although he tries. It's like trying to wash with a filthy rag, I'm afraid. The baby shampoo did not work to clean his paws and now his face and ruff are getting dingy. I hate to stress him with a bath, but I might have to.

*eating hasn't gotten much worse, he can still make it through a dish of shredded chicken, but it is slow going. He seems to be managing the wet food ok.

His BGs are OK. PSs in the low-mid 200s, although he gave me a 98 this morning. I need to get spot checks, but I don't want to stress him and I have had busy days where I am gone at the prime time for checks.

Oh! They just called back with a cancellation for this Thursday, so he is going in a week sooner. Yea!

Hi Sheila, I'm sorry I haven't been posting much but you and Jeddie are in my thoughts and prayers constantly. I log on everyday to look for your updates and am glad that you'll be able to take Jeddie in sooner than next week. Vines and white light coming your way for you, Jeddie and Beau - who is probably so confused right now.

A random thought just popped into my head, and I know it too costs some money, but I'm wondering if it might be helpful to talk with both Jeddie and Beau via an animal communicator so you can find out how both boys are thinking and feeling. Perhaps it might help give you information on how far to go with treatment and whether or not Jeddie needs any pain meds. now.

Blessings for you and Jeddie. I am glad you were able to get him in sooner. I will be watching for updates.

Oh, I am so glad he is getting in sooner rather than later. My heart sank when I read it would be another week or so before the oncologist could see him. Poor baby, not able to clean himself. I am sure that bothers him a lot. :( I like Laura's idea of maybe contacting an animal communicator. Maybe after you have seen the oncologist and when some decisions may have to be made. I think about you guys all the time and continue to pray for your sweet Jeddie and for you. (((Sheila)))

I can barely wait a minute not doing anything about this. Waiting until next week would have made me crazy. I can see minute changes in him every day, but I am looking at him under a microscope. I doubt that I would find any of his behavior suspect if I didn't know something was wrong. He IS drooling more and he IS having trouble grooming because he is using soiled paws to try and clean himself.

I read on line about adding baking powder to baby shampoo for white show dogs, so I might try that. Maybe I can give him a bath once a week or something.

Things are OK between Jeddie and Beau. Not quite as good as before. This morning, Jeddie just barged his way into Beau's sleeping cube, curled up on top of him (there is really only room for one cat in those things) and presented his head for washing. Beau made a fussing noise at first, but then started washing Jeddie's face. There had also been some attempt at mutual grooming out on the balcony earlier (which made me think Beau is going to start looking scraggly too!).

Here they are in the cube:

Laura, I have always been intrigued by animal communicators, but have no experience with them. I get the feeling they are on the expensive side and I am not sure I would be hearing anything other than what I want to hear. Of course, I do wish that I could explain to them what is going on and that I am doing what I think is best for them.

Thinking of you and Jeddie and praying for good news. Unfortunately I know all too well the horrible helpless feeling of waiting, and wanting to do right by our kitties.

That picture is priceless. I always loved watching my 2 groom each other, though that doesn't happen anymore :(

Best of luck to you.

I've seen dry shampoos for pets, though you have to brush a lot to get it out. Cornstarch is a classic 'dry' shampoo and fairly inexpensive.

It might be faster to use a washcloth with a spot of isopropyl alcohol (which will lift the oils) on it which would have to be followed by several rinse wipes of plain water to ensure no alcohol residue was left.

A solution of white vinegar in water might work too.
