So we went to meet a new vet today. I find her to be very approachable. She is well versed in FD, although she had never heard of levemir being used in cats. She did not, however, question my choices or methods, which bodes well for us being about to work together. She looked at Sammy's mouth, and found that the one tooth we knew from previous vet was bad is in fact almost ready to fall out on its own. She has others that are also bad, however, and will need several extractions.
She is scheduled for tomorrow. Prayers welcomed. She was given a shot of antibiotics (injection) today, and will be on injectable pain meds coming home. This was at my request, and the vet agreed that makes a lot of sense, after all, its not easy or preferable to try to give oral medication to a cat with a sore mouth. Since I already inject insulin, its not like I am incapable of giving a shot. The antibiotic is a depot type, she explained,so will be effective over the next 2 weeks.
Sammys mouth is really sore the last day or so, which makes me glad that we are getting this done sooner rather than later.
The vet took a lot of info from me, and was amazed to learn about the Rx food being too high in carbs, etc. I gave her a printout of web sites to go look at, including this forum. Nice to find a vet who understands that she doesnt know it all. She was blown away with the spreadsheet I brought with me, and was glad to hear I am willing to help others in our area who have sugar kitties.
Feeling positive about tomorrow.
