Jake came home yesterday and is doing very well. His blood work was excellent with BUN of 25 and creatinine of 2.0 which although indicates some changes in the kidney function, nothing to worry about too much now. We are mainly concentrating on getting Jake regulated which is the foundation for everything - that is, if he eats! Well, he did not eat much of anything yesterday and even less today. I tried just about everything (kitty smorgasboard) and nada! So I got worried, because I am really trying to follow the new vet's instruction with the insulin since she has made some progress toward the regulation already. So rather than taking a step backwards and not giving insulin because of inappetance and possibly risking a repeat of DKA, etc. I had his feeding tube put back into today. I was absolutely overwhelmed by all this new stuff I had to learn - syringing the tube, etc. So when we got home, I half heartedly put down a bowl of that really stinky fish and shrimp Fancy Feast and he gulped it down - I almost fell over! Anyway and after talking to the vet again, it was decided to keep the tube in him for a couple of days just in case it is needed. I believe EVERYTHING is alright now. It has been a very scary past week, but I somehow knew when I changed my mind about the pts stuff at the 11th hour, it was not Jake's time yet. And for that I am so grateful and so grateful for all of you who were there to tell me what to do. I don't know if I told you, but with all of the posts that came in when I first posted the message about Jake's crisis, there were three main themes that were apparent -E.R, 24/7, and feeding tube. You guys saved Jake's life - I will never forget!

(((((((Judy)))))))) This is wonderful wonderful news!!!!! I am so happy for you and Jake. I am so glad that you asked for help and that everyone was there to offer advice and help save Jake.

Please keep us updated on his progress. Are you giving Lantus? If so, please think about staying on here. There is an insulin support group for Lantus as well other insulins.

In case you are still not too familiar with navigating FDMB here is a link to Lantus Land--check it out: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewforum.php?f=9

Judy, I am so happy that Jake is home and eating again. I bet you're almost afraid to breathe a sigh of relief. It sounds like his kidney values aren't too bad. I hope he continues to get better and lets you relax a little.

I am so happy for you. What a relief. I was wandering what happened. Sounds like Jake is doing better. Keep Us posted please. And let us know if you need anything.

This is great news! I am happy that he is home and you are getting him to eat again.

Now, do please stay here, start a spreadsheet with your BG testing and we'll help guide you on the insulin/FD journey.

I was following you story and wondered what happened to Jake. I am so glad for both of you. Always nice to hear some good news! cat_pet_icon
