I have some questions about Jake's "Senior Profile" I just had done. I just got his blood work back and his vet was astonished that his CREA went from 2.4 to 4.0 in the past 18 months. BUN=68. The reason this vet is astonished is that the rest of his blood work is well within normal ranges including phosphorus and potassium, that his vitals are perfect, that he is gaining weight rather than losing weight, and is not dehydrated. Are there other reasons, other than lab error which the vet said is a possibility, that his CREA might be this high. Or isn’t this very high? He is eating well, drinking his normal amount, and is slowly but surely gaining weight. He is 10.3 pounds up from 8.0 when his diabetes was active. He has been in remission for over one year now. The vet said that Jake is otherwise very healthy and does not want to treat him stating that he could stay at this level for years and that Jake is managing it well. She thinks that this blood work report is really a good one considering his age - he was 19 on May 1st. I would really appreciate some feedback on what you think I should do and if you support what my vet is saying. Please remember that this is not the previous vet that nearly killed Jake in February of last year. This vet is an "cats only" vet, and I have every reason to trust and believe in her! I am just looking for other view points, especially those who have experience in this!
Thanks,
Judy & Jake
