Jack's First Home BG Test

Jack (10 years old) was diagnosed Jan 9 and has been on a canned diet of under 7% carbs in the hopes that control can be achieved through a strict diet.

However, since I already have a Bayer Contour TS meter and supplies, I decided try to get a BG test. This afternoon 4 hours after his last meal, I took a test. The result was 182 and he was rewarded with grilled chicken and his meal.

With one test done, I'm hoping this means I'll be able to do the test on a regular basis. The first one was frightening, but I did it and Jack didn't seem to mind very much.

Any comments on the result of 182? I think this is a good number, but since it's the first and only test so far, I'm not sure there is enough information for evaluation.

Thanks for your help, encouragement and the generous sharing of information.

Sandra, congrats on getting a good test from Jack. It really does get easier with time but sounds like your off to a good start. 182 is a good number - means the insulin is working. When Sitka had her curve done at the vet she was in the low 200 range and the my vet told me that was excellent for a newly diagnosed cat. Jan

Good number there! Wanna set up a spreadsheet so everyone can see your numbers?
What insulin are you using and how much?
My Bean is in remission just from the diet, so I am wishing you luck!
You can view her spreadsheet in my signature if you would like....
HATS OFF TO YOU FOR HOME TESTING...
As you can see, Bean was in hypo the first test I took... nailbite_smile
I wanted to test, but was sooo afraid of all of this.... This forum helped me thru it and my Bean girl is not only in remission but alive!
Welcome welcome welcome

We're not on insulin, only diet change right now. Vet thinks he is a good candidate to get control through diet. However, the only way to know if the diabetes is under control is through testing, so I decided to get started.
