Zeus has been ok with testing, he usually just sits and waits, but he does try to shake his head, sometimes he tries to push my hands away with his paw. And then as soon as I am finished, he jumps down as quickly as he can. Tonight, for the very first time, he was purring. Actually purring. People here said it would happen, and I just kept thinking yeah right. He still jumped down as soon as I was finished with the test, but for those few seconds I was just so happy.

Gotta' love that feeling, right? :) I thought it'd never happen with Tip too, but now she'll even sleep through tests.

Kathie,

Zeus really does know you are trying to help him. So glad he purred for you while testing.

All the best

Claudia

LeeLee purred during testing this morning too - I was scratching her chin with one hand.

Are there any good tutorials on doing an ear prick with just the lancet (no pen)? Like, a really up-close tutorial? Despite the purring, LeeLee always winces and pulls away when I do the ear prick - and I usually have to do it several times to get a good blood drop. But sometimes I do it perfectly AND it doesn't seem to hurt her - no idea what I'm doing those times!

Thanks,
Erin & LeeLee

I don't know if there is a tutorial - but here is the trick I use:

Hold the lancet with thumb and index finger at a 45 degree (ish) upward angle and insert that way not straight on - like with the device.

HEre is a pic that may help:

Thanks everyone, got another purr at testing this morning

Erin, you may want to try searching YouTube for feline blood glucose testing. There a ton of demonstrations. I know I have seen one (multiple times)... He free hands the poke. I think this link will get you there:

I tried free handing the lancet only once, I was too nervous and didn't get any blood. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the lancet advice. I had been poking straight on, not at an angle. I accidentally poked at an angle just before I read this - instant blood drop!
