is your cat suddenly testing higher and eating Fancy Feast?

I have noticed a lot of people saying that their cat is suddenly giving higher numbers or has even fallen out of remission. It also seems that the majority of them are feeding Fancy Feast Pate (Classics).

If this is happening in your world, would you please reply to this post with the flavour and lot number of FF you are feeding? Trying to find out if they have changed the formula or what is going on. Also are you in the US or Canada? (the formulas are different, apparently).

Thanks. (cross posted on the Lantus board to try to get a good sampling of people)

Both mine are having elevated numbers , from 147 to 78 and everywhere in between. Their mostly hanging around 117 , 130, 100 and then I'll get a 83. No rhyme or reason here at all.
Salmon and shrimp lot # 5317116ol1en90655
Salmon & shrimp 53391160L1EN91641
Ocean whitefish and Tuna # 53091168l31650451
COD , sole & shrimp 51261160L11332212
I'm in the US

Also, I have seen two cases of significant digestive upset reported (diarrhoea in one case, vomiting in the other).

@LindaMS - would it be an idea to also ask for reports/batch numbers for cats eating FF who have had GI trouble recently?

We buy many cans of the same flavor at one time all from the same store so for the last 3 weeks they've been eating all the same lot numbers of the different flavor. The one diffrent Salmon & Shrimp lot number I had just bought at a pet store I normally never go too yesterday. I will be goin to another pet store tomorrow to get diffrent food tomorrow.....I will stop giving what I still have in stock from the past 3 weeks.

On January 2 every can of FF in my cupboards went back to the store. Radar has not eaten one bite of FF since January 4 when we decided to throw out all the FF pucks we still had in the freezer. Unfortunately, I don't have any information about the lot numbers of the FF classics Radar was eating.

Radar went into remission early in August 2015 after a complete switch from kibble to All wet food. While he was in remission a little more than half of his diet was FF classics (It was mostly chicken feast and turkey and giblets. He did get some trout but not much because he tended to have loose stools if he ate it more than every other day. ). He came out of remission on December 30,2015 when we discovered a high BG reading of 358 on the ATrax. For about a week prior to that BG test He had been showing the mild symptoms of pancreatitis with bread loafing, and not wanting to eat.

I'm not sure the BG readings are really relevant because he is an unregulated diabetic at this point. The pancreatitis symptoms have subsided almost completely and he is acting much more normally with the 5 Ps all in good condition as of today. Will keep you posted on his progress as we continue to intervene with insulin. Hope this is helpful.

Sorry about the confusion. Yes, Radar's diet was something like 65% FF classics before the pancreatitis symptoms appeared.

I don't know if going out of remission and or pancreatitis can be blamed on the FF. Bubba's diet is about 97% all FF and yesterday, he had his lowest day ever since his DX. Could it be that the kitty was going to go out of remission anyway and/ or pancreatitis was going to happen at that time?

Or could it be certain lot numbers.......maybe a packing error at certain plants? For what ever it's worth my lot numbers are :
Chicken Feast 5256116OL11342137
Tender Turkey Feast KITTEN 5309116OL2FY30204

Just my thoughts....

My kitty was in remission for 1.5 years with 100% diet of FF Classics, all flavors of the Classics, back on Lantus with high numbers about a month ago. I don't have lot numbers for the food. He does have some slight dental issues, but the vet has since said the dental is not severe enough to contribute to his fall out of remission. Earlier this week, I took him off ALL Fancy Feast, and put him on different low carb food. So far, I haven't seen any drop in blood sugar. In fact, today I had one of the highest reading so far. I'll update if anything changes (I'm going to keep him off FF for a month or so), but not seeing any correlation with glucose levels and absence of FF yet.

I only have civies now, but both have been throwing up about every 3 days for no reason. I only feed FF, will look for the lot numbers. It seems to me as I think it's the chicken ones.

I don't know if ... pancreatitis can be blamed on the FF. [...] Could it be that ... pancreatitis was going to happen at that time?

The smallest change has the potential to trigger/exacerbate symptoms in a cat with chronic pancreatitis, Bobbie. Being a product with natural ingredients, there's never an iron-clad guarantee of consistency in a foodstuff. Despite feeding the same food week in, week out I'm always a bit nervous when I start on a different batch. I even see differences in the quality of poops from my civvie between batches. Thankfully minor variations don't really trouble the Noodler, but for Saoirse food quality variations are a huge issue. If something does trigger a flare - even a relatively minor one - it can take quite some time to restabilize her.

Thanks for explaining that to me, Mog, I had no idea! So, you have to be mindful of different batches ( is that the same as the Lot numbers) Gosh, how frustrating. Would making your own cat food help? I have done it in the past, it was a recipe from Halo's Andi Brown, for dogs and cats ( cats didn't get barley in theirs) I might go back to making my own again.
