i am under the impression that the board's preference is to make less total threads, or condos, so im' continuing this here
please advise if i should move it.

diagnosed with UTI date of diabete DX- finished amoxicilin dose

AMPS 291 (0800 hours, eastern time)

cat ate regular AMPS meal
- one can of fancy feast pate

administered regular (new as of a few days ago,) dose of 1.5Units LANTUS

cat vomited moments after +2 test
her vomit seemed to be "regurgitated food," like i could see her AMPS meal clearly, even though that food it mashed up pate

making crying sounds before vomiting, crying while trying to urinate
no signs of lethargy
trying to pee outside of litterbox

cat seems to be struggling to urinate, urinating small amounts, seems to be struggling to defecate.

tested with ketodiastix, appears to be at 15

going to test again and update spreadsheet. please advise

yesterday she started eating new food, as her bgm test incentive, cooked chicken liver.

tldr: everything's okay

thank you guys.
everything is okay, back from ER. she is just kind of exhuasted.

vet feels it's essentially nothing and that the vomit was just unfortunate coincidence with ketones in urine. maybe i shouldnt give her more of this chicken liver and go back to the giblets.

struggling to pee is likely due to her last script of antibiotics ending earlier than it shouldve.

i think the sturggling to defecate was my misperception and she strained to pee so hard that she also pooped.
so, new script for amoxicilin.

will continue to just do everything as i have been, just want to be extra careful to not hit any more fur shots.

the Giblets, I noticed kept both my cats very constipated as well as the liver, you can purchase over the counter MiraLax and put 1/4 tsp twice a day in the food for at least 3-4 days, if your cat is clogged or the poop is too hard, this will soften the bowels without diarrhea, I just started using today again, both my cats suffer from constipation now and then, they use one giant litter box, but each poops in their own place, and I see Coco , going back and forth to the litter but nothing happens, this stuff is really good by tomorrow morning both have pooped. And I am glad everything turned out ok at Emergency ;) 🤗

I'm glad you went to the ER. I'm also very glad you were testing for ketones.

When your cat was diagnosed with a UTI, how did the vet make the diagnosis? Was a sterile urine sample obtained (i.e., did the vet use a needle into your cat's bladder to get a urine sample) and they run a culture and sensitivity? The latter is where they culture the bacteria in the urine so they know exactly what bacteria is there and an antibiotic specific to that bacteria can be prescribed. UTIs can be tricky and sometimes need another round of antibiotics or if a culture and sensitivity wasn't done, a different antibiotic may be needed.

I also removed the 911.

TLDR: Ringworm? OTC AntiFungal Medication

both of her ears have lost hair and have had intermittent redness, i had been assuming from the frequent bg tests.

but now it looks like, maybe overnight, one of her ears has a red, bald spot in the shape of a ringworm infection

OTC ANTIFUNGAL MEDICATION,
something like athletes foot, is what the ER vet over the phone, just now, recommended.
she recommended this with the caveat that she cannot legally recommend this.
she said this would save money, as opposed to a wood's lamp and skin scrape test along with a prescription from their practice.
this information does not coincide with a brief internet search that is full of horror stories about treating the home for ringworm. i will cry and punch the ground and treat the home and her and the humans if she has ringworm but im not quarantining her to a room throughout the treatment

is this ringworm?
is it a baldspot from stress?
do i buy a wood's lamp to confirm?
what do i do?

thank you for removing the 911.

symptoms of the UTI seem to have cleared. still have several days of script left.

the urine sample was collected off the exam table where my cat urinated*
i remember them saying her bladder was small and that they didnt want to collect the urine this way if unecessary.
the urine was not collected on this most recent visit.
another round of amoxicillin was prescribed.

she also had blood tests done which showed a higher white blood cell count.

i was told by the most recent vet, the one visited the day this thread was created, that there are no repercussions to prescribing this additional round of amoxicillin. i am angry that she was not given a lengthier dose in the first place considering her age and diabetes.

the symptoms that started this thread coincide with me furshotting an insulin dose and her amoxicillin ending (a few days prior to posting)

she seems to have been fine up until now, where she still behaviorally and otherwise seems fine, except for what appears to potentially be ringworm on one of her ears.

i have not seen any poop change an i'm pretty sure i was wrong about her having difficulty pooping. thank you for the advice, the liver is too disgusting to feed as a treat because because it gets mashed on my fingers, sticking to the giblets and hearts.

and thank you again to everyone who helped out. i appreciate it.
this sucks.

Hello…

Just regarding the ringworm.
Canesten (brand name for clotrimazole) will treat it. Just make sure kitty doesn’t interact with anyone who isn’t well or has a low immune system, I found out the hard way, it put me in hospital for a week. The head dermatologist of Australia swore blind it wasn’t ringworm as she hadn’t seen anything so bad although I kept telling them about my new feral kitten and that I thought it was ringworm. Turned out I was right and a bit of canesten would have sorted it out when it first appeared as it’s a fungal infection (if that’s what your kitty has- it does look like it)
My vet did the wood’s lamp on Arya and saw nothing but she was pretty furless.
Good luck.

I'm not sure whether that's ringworm. I'd suggest sending the photo to your doctor or if you have one, a dermatologist.

There a couple of ways for your vet to test for ringworm in cats:
  • fungal culture
  • PCR test
  • Wood's lamp exam
  • Tricogram
The Wood's lamp is an ultraviolet light. It's not definitive though since it doesn't cause all forms of ringworm to glow green.

Ringworm is a pain in the butt. There is a sulphur bath that you can use. You soak your cat and let the cat air dry. While you will not be popular with your cat since this has to be done once a week for several weeks. the bigger pain is that you need to scrupulously clean the house. I was washing everything with a dilute bleach solution. I sent my area rugs to be professionally cleaned. I was spraying everything I could with an antifungal spray. If the cat got bathed, I cleaned. Lots of things went into the trash. My vet also re-ran the tests after the course of treatment and then 2 weeks after treatment was discontinued.
