Hi I have been giving my 14yr old newly diabetic male cat Pumpkin Pie Lantus Insulin for 5 days now. I give the insulin 5-10 mins.after he walks away from his plate. After the injection,I comb him for a few mins til I get the Growl!! Then I give him a once over checking paws,teeth,ears.skin.Its about 15-20 mins "our Time". Here's the odd part when I put him back on the floor he goes right back to his plate and eats the left overs from 30 mins before?? Is that normal?? He never did this before the diabeties?

Until their blood sugar is controlled by the insulin or they go into remission diabetic cats can't fully utilize the food they eat. They are in effect - starving. So yes, its completely normal for a diabetic cat to be hungry all the time, eat more then before diagnosis etc.
