Is this normal? Taz's PMPS is lower than at his +6 reading. This is his readings for the day....

AMPS - 506
+2 hours 50 minutes later - 412
+6 - 394
PMPS - 380
+2 - 200

I gave him his pain meds and cerenia in some cheese, at 5:50. 8:30 he got 2 units of Lantus. I wanted to make sure there were 2 hours between the cheese and his PM reading.

I would have posted this on the Lantus forum but I already posted once today and I was worried no one would read it to see my new questions.

When you have a question you don't have to start a new thread in Lantus forum- just add a new reply to your existing thread with the question, as that will bump your post up to the top of the list. And in the Thread Tools, put the "?" Prefix, and edit your title to say "1/9 Taz - BG data - question on curve" or something like that

To answer your question - yes it can be normal, I suspect he was bouncing from all that nonsense at the vet, and also trying to "settle into" the dose. Bounce breaks are often a long slide down, so you end up with nadir near or even after shot time. That was a nice slow slide down so I hope he doesn't bounce again.

Ok thank you.

How long do bounces usually last? Is it caused by the insulin already stored in the body? I wasn't sure if it was the cheese, or even splitting his meals into several small ones that caused his numbers to do that.

Up to 6 cycles usually. It's caused by BG dropping faster or lower than they're used to, even if it's perfectly safe numbers - live dumps stored glycogen in a "panic".

He's had a lot going on lately, he should even out in a few days and then we'll have a better idea of how the dose is working for him.

You can see he bounced again today - that drop from 380 to 200, and also seeing green is likely what did it. Very normal, nothing to do but be patient and consistent
