I am breaking the bank buying wet food for 3 hungry cats (only one, Gobbles is diabetic)...and it is impossible for me to separate them at feeding tine...and I would love to feed him dry, if possible. Is there any brand/flavor of dry food that is appropriate for diabetic cats?

Friskies Turkey and Giblet canned in 12.5 oz cans is pretty economical to feed all of them.
Then supplement him specifically with something like Fancy Feast kitten Turkey and Giblets to get his calorie count up.

Also, something like Wellness has a higher fat content, and thus more calories per oz so you may actually feed less volume and it may work out effectively. Ie instead of feeding 6 oz, may be able to feed 4.5 oz for the same calorie count and the can will go farther.

As he becomes regulated, his weight should start to increase, barring any other health problem.

On Janet and Binky's page, there is a link to dry food brands and flavors that lists the "%carbs":
The 2 lowest are Evo Cat and Kitten, and Wellness Core, but this data isn't current.

That said, in answer to your question:
Is there any brand/flavor of dry food that is appropriate for diabetic cats?

Because of the additional long term health risks associated with a dry food diet, there isn't a dry food that is appropriate for any cat, diabetic or not.

I have a dehydrator...can I just use it to dry out raw meat such as chicken, beef and venison?

That would be fine for treats only, not for actual meals. Plain meat on its own is not a nutritionally complete diet.

Some people find that a homemade raw diet is the cheapest for multiple cats. Catinfo.org has a recipe that many members here use.

You can feed dry food, if that's going to be more cost effective with the food, but what you save on the food will be wasted plus even more money because you will likely need to give your diabetic more insulin.
You will also take a chance of your other cats becoming diabetic, and your cost for insulin will double.

If you look at the most recent food list compiled by Dr. Lisa Pierson, on catinfo.org, you can look through the list for foods under 10%, make a list of some or print out the list, then head to the store to see which is the cheapest wet food under 10% carb.

You may think the dry food is cheaper, but then you have to factor in the damage done to the cats' bodies and especially their teeth, the wet food is a pretty good deal.

Oh, I meant, with regard to raw meat, that would be in addition to the low-carb wet food that he already eats. I think I'm going to make him some dry meat treat--great idea and thanks!

Good points...the more I read about dry food the more he won't be getting any...I took him off dry food after he was diagnosed....the other cats nor the dog get dry food anymore...Thanks!

There is a new one out that is supposedly zero carbs. Young Again zero Carb dry food. They also have a regular cat food.

I have a friend here who has a cat who will Not eat canned .... no matter what.

She just switched to this food which as far as I know is the most expensive cat food .... ever..... ( higher than evo dry)
But her cat is eating the young again zero carb and bg numbers are showing that it is helping her tremendously ... So Far.
They are moving down the dosage and ito greens after many many months.

Thanks Rianna! I've heard good things about this cat food! Though a little expensive, as I have three hungry mouths here to feed (it is impossible for me to try to keep the two un-diabetics and the sugar baby from eating eachother's food....so far
