Is Sorbitol in toothpaste okay for sugar kitties?

I recently purchased this toothpaste from Chewy and failed to check the ingredients. When I received it, I noticed that Sorbitol is the first ingredient in the ingredient list. Is Sorbitol okay for our diabetic cats?

I checked the ingredients in this toothpaste and see dextrose which is a sugar. So I am very confused about how a sugar ingredient can be ok for a diabetic. I discovered this after using it for first time with Minner today and noticing she seemed to like the taste so I tasted it and thought it was sweet …. Sure enough, dextrose is the 5th ingredient and her bg level has jumped 20 points since I used it on her. Ugh.

Laura, I'm so sorry!!! I'm obviously terrible with identifying sugary ingredients. I hate that Minner's bg went up. Maybe other cats didn't respond with bg increases because they aren't as sensitive?? IDK. I know Jude is sensitive, so I'll not be trying this with him. @Tim & Pookey and @Karolina & Nestle, see this--I know you were both interested in this toothpaste.

@Mary & Jude This is on me … trust but inspect. I should have looked too. Minner is super carb sensitive so I think for most cats it is maybe less noticeable. I also think the amount that got on her gums and absorbed was more than normal b/c when I opened the tube for first time a lot came out. There’s also absorption on gums vs digestion from swallowing and the latter should be minimal. But if you get on gums it’s going to absorb fast. I also wonder if the poultry has less absolute amount since dextrose is further down i ingredient list.
