Hi,

This morning, as for nearly one week, Capoo was fed with Kattovit wet food (I bought a batch of 12 cans some times ago from Zooplus).
The can that I used was new, and I put some in my auto-feeder.
First meal : Capoo vomited it directly on the auto-feeder.
I thought "ok, boy, as usual, you have eaten to quickly".
So I took the same can out of the fridge, put some teaspoons in the auto-feeder, and the same cause generated the same consequence : Capoo ate it, and vomited it again directly on the auto-feeder.
Then, I have used another can of another brand (Terra Faelis), and this time, it was ok, Capoo didn't vomit it.

I have the feeling that this particular can of Kattovit has a problem, and I think that it's not the first time that this happen (but with other brands, for example I encountered the same three weeks ago with GranataPet Symphonie).

Have you already faced the same thing, with having one (or more) poor quality cans in a batch?
What is the cause of it?

I had a can of Fancy Feast look funny when I opened it, it was darker and drier. I did not serve it. All the other cans from that same case were okay. Any damage to the can, no matter how small it may look, has the potential to cause a break in the metal of the can, allowing bacteria and air to enter.

I had what what I suspect was a bad can. Two of my cats vomited it up shortly after eating. A third would not eat any. They all have eaten that variety of Friskis before.
One I even fond a sealed but empty can in a case

Yes! Actually, within an otherwise perfectly good batch I have had the occasional can explode in the cupboard (usually in the middle of the night..). It makes a hell of a mess, and is extremely stinky to clear up. This must be, I think, to do with a canning problem rather than a food problem....? I must confess that I have never complained or taken up the issue with the manufacturers.... Life seemed to have more pressing things going on at the same time so I just 'put it down to experience'.... If it happened more frequently it would certainly very quickly work it's way up my 'to do' list.....
.

Frankly I think anything is possible. Not a cat food story, but a couple of months ago I opened a glass jar of curry sauce and inside was a two-inch piece of co-axial cable! No kidding. I was horrified and emailed the manufacturer, who sent me a container to return the object to them for analysis. A few weeks later back came a long report basically saying it wasn't possible that any foreign object was in any of their products due to strict procedures, blah blah blah - and they said it had clearly entered the jar in the domestic environment (my kitchen)! I hotly contested this but they wouldn't budge.

Sorry for going slightly off-topic but I do think strange things can happen in the food canning/bottling process. If I were you I would query it.

Cans nowadays are thinner then they used to be. The pull top lids are very thin.. I check all cans, not just cat food, to make sure they are ok. If they show any sign of bulging, I throw them out.

Now I remember that my brother told me some years ago that he found a frog in a can of green beans.

I am wondering what (type of bacteria or something else) can cause an immediate regurgitation.

Are you sure it wasn't one of these....? ;)

That's really a mess to find a descent and suitable food:
- Calculate the carbs contents,
- Check the fat content (my cat tolerates better the low fat food)
- Check the phosphorus content
- Check the labels every time you buy it (as some companies have the good idea to change periodically the composition...., but I'm used to that, as I have a celiac disease from my birth)
- Check the origin of the proteins (no grain)
- Check the can itself
- Check the I don't know what....

That's a full time job!!!:banghead::banghead::banghead:
