Hi,

Petie loves cantaloupe. In case you don't know, Petie was declared diabetic a few weeks ago. And he loves cantaloupe - is it ok?

Thank you!
Jackie

It's got sugar and carbs in it so will spike his blood sugar, how much do you give him?

For now I would find another treat like freeze dried chicken. Once you are testing more often you can try testing him, feeding him the melon, then testing in 30minutes to see if it impacted his blood sugar significantly.

Oh - I didn't know - ok, he literally had just a couple little pieces and some juice.

i do have lots of dehydrated meats and he likes those, too. will stay away from the melon!!!

If he absolutely loves it and insists on eating some when you are eating it, if you give him a tiny piece or two to satisfy him, just be aware that his BG may be higher at the next test. Sometimes it's not worth fighting with the cat to keep them away, especially if said cat puts his face in the dish and refuses to move. ;-)

Of course if you can offer him something else while you eat the fruit, and he accepts, even better.

If we can do more testing and confirm what impact it has on his BG, then in theory we can use it for any time that we find he is too low and to bring him up- and it does happen!. Or as a stimulant if he ever has periods of not eating at all. If you currently have some, maybe freeze it in small amounts for special occasions like this
