Sophisticat is the most affordable choice for us in terms of canned food, and now our petsmart is totally stocked up on the purrfect choice. We have been using it exclusively. I was just wondering if anyone else is using the 'new'/relabled stuff? I called the number on the can and they said the only thing that has changed is the label since of course I was worried about them changing things around and therefore changing the carb content. Has anyone verified that its the same as the sophisticat? Mostly I am just paranoid :)

Re: is anyone buying the purrfect choice/previously sophisti

I have used Sophisticat for a couple of years and stocked up when they put signs up saying a new product was coming. I talked to the store manager and he emailed the corporate offices to see what was up (no one had told him anything). Basically it is a rename/repackage. However... (you knew that was coming, right?)

I bought a can each of the three flavors I use and they have changed the recipes a bit. Most of the changes are the order of the ingredients - meaning more or less of something so that ingredient moved up or down the list. But I noticed that the Salmon Dinner one has brewers rice in it now and it didn't used to - plus less salmon. That has me disappointed, but I will try a few cans and see if they have problems with it. I used to feed Friskies and back a few years ago it had brewers rice in it, but changed to just rice. Not sure what the differences are there. I won't use Friskies because it has "menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity)", which is an artificial Vit K and associated with possible toxic reactions. I just avoid it.

Jeddie is also very sensitive to egg so I have to avoid egg products. I was glad to see that none of the flavors I use have egg in them. I haven't checked other flavors for it. PetSmart's other food, Authority, does have died egg product, so I was worried about that.

I hate when they change a good thing. Stupid new name, if you ask me (of course, no one did ask me  ). I liked the name "Sophisicat".

I think you can use it and it will be similar in quality and protein/carb content. Now we have to see if we can get "as fed" carb amounts out of them so we know for sure that it is still low carb (the pate ones).

Are you buying Purrfect Choice or Grreat Choice? Grreat Choice is what Sophistacat was renamed...or is this something that varies by region? I contacted PetSmart corporate & they sent me an email at the beginning of last month:view topic I still have several cans of the Sophistacat Salmon, Mixed grill, Turkey & Giblets, Ocean Whitefish & Tuna, and Elegant Entree, so I can compare the old labels to the new & see if there's much/any difference in the ingredient listing.

Yes, sorry. For some reason I was thinking purrfect instead of grrreat :) Stupid name either way if you ask me! LOL! I just bought 70 cans so I hope its the same thing

The order of ingredients changed on the liver and chicken, but not the actual ingredients. It actually looks a lot better...more pate in the can now and less of that icky jelly/juice, and the pate is softer and less stinky. I've fed it to Mikey and it doesn't seem to affect his BG any differently, so I don't think the numbers have changed significantly. All three of mine love the flavor, too.

I don't feed seafood flavors, so I don't know about the salmon one. I still have old cans of a couple of other flavors, so I will see what's up with those when I get the new.

I got Curt off insulin feeding only the Great Choice pate with Beef and Liver and also the Ocean Whitefish... he still tests under 100 consistently

I went through a case of the big cans not too long ago... I think the Supper Supreme? Ingredients were in the same order as the Sophisticat... which I ended up with at the last Petsmart I went to. Willie's been doing just fine on it.
