Hi, my name is Patti-Jo and my foster cat ( soon to be officially mine) is between 8-10 years old and found under a building on a busy highway. His name is Bruce, and he is long and lean and very affectionate. He became a part of my family about 5 weeks ago, and was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago. He is on insulin 2x a day and his keto stick readings are good, but he is not gaining weight. I know he needs time to adjust to so many changes, so we are just monitoring him and enjoying his “Jersey “ accent! I am a worrier, so I am hoping to learn from other cat parents.

Welcome to FDMB
you are in the right place, what are you feeding, and what insulin are you using? Lantus and ProZinc are a 12- hour insulin gentle on cats, a diabetic cats needs a wet can or raw food between 0-10% carbs, Fancy Feast or Friskies Pates are a good choice, and a feeding schedule he should have between 3-4 small meals or snacks during the day plus the two main meals before each shot, also home testing is important testing before each shot to avoid hypoglycemia is important, plus several times during the day, you can use any human meter such as the ReliOn Premier monitor and strips, no need for an expensive pet meter, if you are feeding kibbles, the food transition needs to be a slow one not to upset the stomach as well as the levels can dive down due to the carb switch so home testing during this cycle is important. Please keep posting:bighug:
